First of all, let me state my position:
Venky's have been a disgrace, Kean is out of his depth and disingenous at best and I don't expect us to get promotion from the championship.
However, although it may be too late, I think the signing of Danny Murphy does hint at a gradual understanding of what has gone wrong.
Yes he's 35, and no he isn't going to set the world alight, but the fact they have overpaid to meet his demands does make me think that maybe venky's have realised that they need to actually put their hands in their pockets to make this work.
I feel that we lost the likes of Salgado, Nelsen, Emerton as a result of 'cost cutting' and it cost far more than it saved. Perhaps with Singh involved, we might see the beginning of the long overdue investment in the club that we were promised.
Everything is far from rosy in the garden and I think we might see record (recent year) low attendances at ewood for the first game, but there might just be some light at the end of the tunnell. I was encouraged that Singh spoke openly to the media, and if he does have the power that he seems to suggest, Kean is on his last chance.
Are they finally listening?

I agree Murphy is a good signing and a welcome addition but what does it say about our club or the way it’s been ran in recent times when we get excited about the signing of a 35 year old journeyman?

Contradictory emotions really. Can't argue that it is a good signing, provided he has the legs to back him up e.g. Lowe.
But makes you think- we froze out an ageing player with experience and skill we should have kept (Salgado) due to massive wages...then post-relegation who do we sign?
An ageing player with experience and skill, on massive wages. Hmm. Coming from Shebby "Kean needs to go/Kean needs to stay/Gerrard is best employed at RB" Singh.

I think that Dan.ny Mur.phy is probably one of the best players in the Cha.mpionship even at 35 his expe.rience will pay divid.ends and give us some extra space in mid.field. Remember Tu.gs playing until he was 36 was it (?) and he co.ntrolled our midf.ield, the play would be dictat.ed by him at times. This is what we can expect from Murphy if he stays fi.t that is a big if at 35 but between him and Du.nn hopefully they can p.ull off 46 games + in a season (know.ing our luck 10 between the 2 of them!!). He seems much fitter than D.unn though and he has a bit of ste.el about him, can take a free kick and a great pe.nalty taker. We are undo.ubtedly still in a sh.!t mess but if we can get some more of these rumoured signings in such as Be.st and Gosling then there is a possibility that som.e of our players who wanted to leave might be inclined to stay. I still cli.ng on to dear hope that some of our best players will just give it at least one season to see if we can come straight back up. In our time of ut.ter mis.ery I am trying to keep as positive as possible without giving any money to the club. They need 5 or 6 sign.ings in my opinion then we can can start discu.ssing the pos.sibility of getting Ro.vers T.V for the season since I am in the Sta.tes and cant see sh.!t any.more!
