In all honesty, England failed to rise above the level of the mediocre at any stage in this tournament and for the most part were unambitious, boringly defensive and shocking in possession. Without doubt, finishing top of the group was an achievement and was largely down to Roy's tactics - he set out his stall to be hard to beat and sneak the odd goal on the break.
I can't help feeling that if Capello had still been in charge and we had just been knocked out on penalties after those four tournament performances he would have been lambasted in every tabloid and broadsheet going. Graham Taylor's turnip nightmare would be nothing compared to the unrelenting and imaginative vegetablisation of Fabio by the great English Journos.
I like Roy; he seems a decent and straight forward bloke who tried his best. But the football his team churned out was turgid in the extreme. His honeymoon is over and now he must turn to the cream of our youth and build a team for Brazil that can excite us.
Has Roy Got Off Lightly??

The problem is though that the cream of our youth is no better than the older players and wont be until the PL clubs have a limit on how many imports they are allowed to play every week.
Most of the imports are run of the mill players who are no better than average but the clubs feel obliged to play them coz of the ridiculous money they are being paid.
Obviously there are many top freign players in our leagues but our youngsters will not be given enough opportunities to cement their places in the teams.
At best in Brazil 2014 - last 16 with maybe a quarter final place.
