How he doesn’t take a penalty in front of Cole is disgusting. It winds me up so much.
Even if Roy Hodgson had him down to take the fifth, that’s not an excuse. It’s not good enough.
Your best takers go first. It’s no good having Lionel Messi waiting to take the last penalty if your team is already out, is it?
When I was at the World Cup as a player, if I had stood there and let Tony Adams or Gary Neville take one before me, I’d be ashamed of myself.
That’s a striker’s job. That’s what they are paid to do. Since the age of 10, or whenever he started, he’s been told to score goals.
Carroll will be one of our main centre-forwards going into the next World Cup – and he won’t step up and take a penalty? It doesn’t fill you with confidence.
I’ll say one thing, though: You can’t practise pens. Anyone who says you can is talking the biggest load of tosh.
You can’t prepare for that walk to the spot from the halfway line. It’s impossible. So don’t give me any of that rubbish about us not practising pens.
Regardless of what arsenal did, merson says he would not let a defender take a penalty ahead of him as its no good having your best penalty taker going last. he did though as demonstrated by the OP

I dont believe its his real view as he would know that penalty takers can play in any position. I do think he wrote that article in the hotel bar at 2am though

Well, I'm sure that the Echo will be very pleased with the reaction to Mersons efforts. It seems that JA606 Red can't ignore them either! I ask, what's the point of posting? We all disagree with his comments, enough said. His history, his background, his mental and moral weaknesses, if he has them, what's the point? Just ignore the man and his Echo piece. He/they aren't worth commenting on, his opinion is worthless. jimmyTheRed

Valid point Lucas, it's just that I'm getting bored ****less about articles such as these. I for one want to read on comments about my club instead and matters about the future of my club. Sorry if it offends JimmyTheRed
