Iniesta being voted player of the tournament was a terrible decision. Of course he is an exceptional player and showed that with his technical ability and dribbling throughout the tournament but did he at any point take Spain by the scruff of the neck and win the game for them? On the whole I'd say he was pretty ineffective, correct me if I'm wrong but weren't Silva and Cesc both superior in terms of productivity? (Goals and Assists)
I'd go as far as to say that having Iniesta in the team would be a massive bonus to any team, but Spain's strength in depth meant that they probably still could have won the tournament without him. This however isn't true for say Pirlo, or Ronaldo, who were the driving forces behind their team's progression. I would say in the Spain team alone, Alonso, Ramos, Alba, Cesc and Casillas were more important to the team's triumph.
I would have given the accolade to Pirlo personally as he took a largely unfancied Italy team to the final and bossed 5/6 of the games he played in, the final was just a step too far for the Italian maestro where he was crowded out.

Pirlo deserves the price and one said Fabregas. If you consider he played not in his best position and what influence he had I really think he deserves that too.

People need to understand that you don't need to provide tons of goals/assists to be considered 'effective'.
Iniesta was Spain's most consistent player. He played well in every single match. The likes of Silva/Fabregas had bursts in which they were exceptional, but Iniesta was playing well every minute.

Iniesta is more naturally talented than Ronaldo. It's debatable but I personally believe Iniesta is the better player.
