forget baines, give fabio a chance

hopefully he'll play LB for QPR, that would mean evra at left back for another, but comeon he's hardly the worst left back, just needs to be more defensive than always attack minded, if fergie buys baines that's the end of fabio, let's see how he progresses during his time QPR

I would rather wait to see how fabio turns out than pay £15 mil on baines

I doubt that SAF will sell him to be honest. Like I said, he was rated quite a lot higher than his brother when we signed him. He was actually the captain of the Brazil U17 team that won the South American Championship and scored 5 or 6 goals and I believe played in a more advanced role. He was one of the stand out players of the tournament and tipped for big things. When the two boys joined United the common opinion was that Rafael had only been brought over to keep Fabio happy and everyone was surprised that Rafael overtook his brother. Although that was partly thanks to Garry Neville's legs suddenly deciding that they'd had enough and Rafael getting games.

Even if he never catches Rafael back up, he will still be a good squad player and SAF likes to have them. Especially when they have a brother in the team who they will help keep settled. If he stays fit and gets the games then I think that he could have a real positive impact for QPR. I just hope you add a bit more quality to the squad before the start of the season.

The Red Side said earlier that:

Apparently one of the coaching staff at United has said that the twins are emotionally immature compared to other players and it's impacting their development and their playing time and they're also not learning from their mistakes.

Maybe he's going on loan to help them mature a bit as being away from one's twin might make you do?

That seems like an entirely reasonable suggestion. Twins do tend to be extremely close and I imagine even more so when in a foreign country. The separation will probably help them mature.

Lets just hope that they managed to split them up in time before they get too close - no-one wants to see them 'do a Jedward'. Ewwww.

Must be hard for them to leave each other. They have lived together all their lives. I really hope QPR get the best out of him.

Hopefully. They both have amazing potential.

God forbid. I cannot stand Jedward.

Given Baines is already going to be 28 this year it hardly means the end of Fabio.

If anything the relatively short time Baines will be at his peak if at all is one reason, aside from the fact we wont be closing any gaps with the really elite clubs, I hope we dont spend 15m plus on him. Especially as the time he's most likely to be at his peak will be the time Evra is still at the club even if in decline.

People seem to forget that Fabio is right footed not left footed. He played in the CL Final in 2011 at right back.

Fabio is not a natural left back guys.

Rafael isnt a natural right back either Zico, although of course is right footed.

Fabio is naturally right footed but learned to play with his left to avoid competing with his brother and because he had to fill in that spot for his team after they lost their player in that position, and he wasn't going well as a striker, which was his normal position.

Rafael was a midfielder originally, but moved to right funnily because that part of the pitch was in shadow where he played. Sounds bizarre I know, so I searched for a source and he's a good article talking about both their backgrounds, preferred positions, and even why Fabio learned to use his left foot at left back.

PS Something I didnt know until just seeing that linked article was that Arsenal apparently tried to nab them without going through their club and it annoyed their mum, so they stayed put and signed for United instead.
