Matches of the Day: Wimbledon 2012, R4 Day8

Rain played spoilsport and R4 could not be completed. A win for Federer but I'm not sure how good he is feeling, but congrats on extending the qtr. final streak. Djo-Troicki went just the way one can hope it would, Djo can play so dominant against Troicki its like he doesn't take Troicki's game for 2 hoots. Youzhny in qtr. finals after a long time.

We take forward from where we were last time.

1. David Ferrer (ESP)[7]
v
Juan Martin Del Potro (ARG)[9]

Good this one moved to CC, as it should be. Match of the day and a real test for Delpo. This in some way will determine how will Delpo do this year. Delpo in 5 for me.

2. Serena Williams (USA)[6]
v
Petra Kvitova (CZE)[4]

The match is interesting and hence I'm coving it. A real blockbuster of a premise, I can't base anything to make this prediction. I'm just hoping the match fulfils the promise it makes on paper.

3. Sabine Lisicki (GER)[15]
v
Angelique Kerber (GER)[8]

Match of the giant slayers. But I think the winner will win it in 2 sets, whoever it be. Lisicki more likely.

4. Andy Murray (GBR)[4]
vs
Marin Cilic (CRO)[16] To Finish 7-5 3-1 (40*-0)

Cilic lacked the energy which was showing yesterday. Perhaps this break can do better for him.

5. Tamira Paszek (AUT)
v
Victoria Azarenka (BLR)[2]

I think this match will halt Tamira's wonderful run this wimbledon. Azarenka demolished Ivanovic yesterday and is looking very determined to grab the #1 back with another slam win. Good going till now.

6. Mardy Fish (USA)[10]
vs
Jo-Wilfried Tsonga (FRA)[5] To Finish 6-4 1-1

Tsonga was rusty yesterday, wind not helping him at all. A day's break should cool his nerves. If the conditions aren't bad I still think Tsonga should take it away in 4 sets.

7. Florian Mayer (GER)[31]
vs
Richard Gasquet (FRA)[18] To Finish 6-3 2-1

Anyone's pick, they both can lose from winning positions. so not sure whom to pick.

8. Brian Baker (USA)
v
Philipp Kohlschreiber (GER)[27]

I didn't hope a men's 4th round match will happen on court-12, but here we have it. Kohli with his experience should win it in 3 or 4 maybe. Good play from Baker nonetheless to reach this far.

I've been following Simon Barnes' writing in the Times this Wimbledon with great pleasure, and if I get some time, will write a bit more, but here's the opening paragraph from today's article called: BREAKING NEWS: FEDERER IS AS HUMAN AS YOU OR I AND THAT'S WHAT MAKES HIM GREAT

"There's a curious pain in watching an unforced error from Roger Federer.
There's a tendency to wince, close your eyes for a moment as if to shut out the reality. It offends our sense of what is fitting."

I think this is enough to whet the appetite of any Federer fan

ok, by popular demand, I'll do another paragraph:

"All players make errors but with Federer - and only with Federer- it feels the fault liesnot in the player but in realilty.

.....

Never mind. We still had a bit of Proper Rodge: the second set was straight from the High FEd period and the closing four games were filled with that serene certainty that Federer always did best.

Kerber breaks back. Feel sorry for her as I just realise she's not cold and blase, just frozen with fear from the big stage and trying to keep all the emotions in check
may whoever wins win!
