I can't comment on the whole Yorks/Lancs thing, I have family from both sides of the hill.
I can tell you I'd have much rather have grown up on either side of the hill than down here.
In my experience the further north you get the nicer the people are.

Bloody Right!!!
Dragged her to Gods Country about 8 years back after 18 months in the hills near Halifax..
Once I've rid her of that bloody accent we can think about Mallorca!!
Oh, and she can manage a 5am Flight without 2 litres of meths!
