Spare a thought for Nigel

It must be more annoying for him than any of us , what are his options ? We need 10 more points NIgel , you have no budget Nigel , we need some money coming inwards Nigel.
This must have been his brief from our real enemy MR ANDY APPLEBY, so he either gives up his living or tows the line , we have all been in that position at work.
Who can we sell who will raise money - my top centre half who I bought with last years miserly budget , I need to cover at least 3 positions and a new centre half, ive had this team playing great football in periods only to be found out by the paper thin squad they allow on our bottom 6 budget (quote Metgod) .
The academy is producing squad members because we have so many gaps , most are not ready just yet.
My personal opinion is that the bloke is doing a great job , if I could buy DCFC from that American rubbish , I would employ Nigel Clough.
Most people who criticise him stopped going, and sit on this message board expressing their views .
I emailed Appleby the other day and as always he replied with a load of drivvle , I then suggested that GSE which is by the way MR ANDY APPLEBY are skint , I have had no reply.
Can anyone remember us ever actually keeping a player we have a bid for ?
it really makes you wonder !!

Rob,

You're right life is too short, something away from football bought that home to me last year.

Happy Slasher,

All you do is play a poor devils advocate on here, just who do you think would replace the current manager realistically & do you think the managers work conditions will change?

There's very few managers who I wouldn't have over Clough.

Would it change...? Let me suggest something here: if Clough had not had his contract renewed or, even better, never darkened the Pride Park doors in the first place, do you really think so many people would have accepted the past few years under GSE?

It's my opinion that this f'kd-up notion of somehow being 'disloyal to Brian Clough' by refusing to see any errors of his child have given GSE carte blanche to run us into the floor, and that the current levels of anger are actually long overdue. If the majority continue to 'see' the Emperor's New Clothes then clearly GSE will continue to dress Pride Park in them.. Perhaps, if people can see the wood now rather than just trees, it'll force GSE to reconsider their emphasis... After all, Mr "Championship FFP" campaigner extraordinaire Glick apparently now has no qualms taking the Man City pieces of silver, so nothing's set in stone, is it?

You would ALL do well to remember that the supporters are the lifeblood of the club: without us, they have nothing! Stand together, like we have before, and we can drive change... Alternatively, just keep on bending over and don't feign outrage when you get it in the arris AGAIN.

"The incident DID happen and WAS deliberate...."

If it was so cut-and-dried, don't you think that BD would take every opportunity to put one over the club he hates more than any other?

Obviously it wasn't as obvious as you and robrea think - but it fits nicely into your own agenda so believe what you want.

Moot point, because they get buggerall out of you anyway.

Don't hate on me for seeing things more clearly and therefore sooner than you: I'm sure when I'm 87 and stinking the place up, some handsome young pup will in turn see better than I

I agree about the manager situation. Look, it won't change my life whether Clough goes or not, but I know the next unfortunate, sorry manager, will face the same difficult situation.

£7m & £12m nearly £20m plus £10m wasted by Jewell. I thought Steve Claridge made a great comment once on his BBC column when a Forest fan eulogised over Billy Davies by pointing out that he played his part in our failure - we keep hearing why isn't Clough being linked to jobs, neither is Billy Davies with PL clubs. Why?

Of that near £20m, little was recouped (Earnshaw) and in fact we made a double loss, loss on transfer fees and contract negotiations: Claude Davis cost us upwards of £5m on fees, wages & pay-off. The initial outlay became toxic.

Clough has just about had that amount as manager Maybe if he did, he might spend it better

You come across as a bit of a curmudgeon with an endearing sense of self-deprecating humour. But I also sense double-standards. If you were a manager, I can imagine you can't have been an easy person to deal with either, as it is a stressful job, industrial language and machismo flying about. In other words, I think you judge Clough by a criteria that you probably didn't abide with especially if you belong to the old school type. So he who casts the first stone and all that.

CapNBob, Davies' spent money can't really be considered as wasted as he never got to manage the players he bought. In hindsight, another manager will regard them as a waste, but the next manager will regard Clough's purchases as a waste.

No sign of Nigel having decided to make a statement with regard to the selling of Jason Shackell.

I don't agree. I think Billy had 14 matches in charge (mid Nov) and we suffered some of the heaviest defeats of that campaign in those games, so he bought badly.

Jewell wasted £10m in the Championship, but I thought he was a bit unlucky in the PL and we suffered a lot of late heartbreak, like his first game away to Sunderland where we nearly gained a point: Liverpool at home, Bolton away, the missed penalty at home to Blackburn.

I dispute your point about Clough in one respect. Whoever succeeds him will benefit from a revitalised Academy.

I felt sorry at the time for Billy because he had been limited regarding signings, but in hindsight he didn't seem to have any tactics and failed to sign players in key areas (midfield).

Hindsight is wonderful. If I could turn the clock back to 2006, I wish Gadsby had brought in a young manager, like Clough, and allowed him to build a platform (three year plan).

I think Gadsby & Billy were too ambitious for where we were at the time (debt), I thought Mike Horton seemed to be one of the more levelled headed people around (maybe you might correct me there). Gadsby carries blame as well. We owe Gadsby & Billy for promotion, but the £30m banked to pay off debts is counterbalanced by the £30m wasted, £20m of it by Billy.
