No, they were 8th and 12th early in the race and that was good pace, the team said so,so it must be true.
7 and 10 cars being in front, they were just lucky.
McLaren started this year with the best car on the grid and have brilliantly, through hard work and sheer talented, gifted effort, turned it into a mid-field no-hoper.
Cause to be proud.

Can't all be McLaren's fault the drivers were hardly great today.

McLaren need to take a long look at themselves.
Red Bull make a mistake its a shock, its now reached the point where its a shock if McLaren DON'T make a mistake.
They have a great car and great drivers but only getting middling results and that comes down to more than just bad luck.

Something has gone very wrong. They seem to have lost all ability to develop a car mid season.
in 2009 they developed a dog of a car into a race winner. This year they had a dominant car that is now 4th fastest at best.

At 19 laps Alonso passed Hamilton to retake the lead on his new tyres. Hamilton still had to stop so, effectively, at lap 19 Alonso was 20 secs ahead!
The Ferrari was a second a lap quicker than the McLaren.
At the beginning of the year the McLaren was the fastest car.
That performance drop is ALL down to the team, not the drivers.
Perhaps they don't "test" as often?

Also to add, it's not like they've even maximised their points haul while having a good car. The team have been poor in many facets.

I have watched the replay and have been a little unfair, time loss for pit-stops at Silverstone is less than usual because of the slow left/right at Club onto the finishing straight.
At 42 laps Hamilton was 28 seconds down, that's "only" 2/3rds of a second slower.
In McLaren terms these days that equates to, "You are setting brilliant times, don't worry about all the cars in front of you, we are not racing them".
Damned right you aren't!

It's because Button has been pants for a while. He can't complain about the car if his team mate is dragging it to race wins and Q3

On a positive note, the pitstops have improved. 2.8 seconds was pretty decent.
Doesn't help when your car is shioite though. If maldonado hadn't taken Perez out, Hamilton and Button may have not finished the race in the points
