I, with many others, have been praising Federer's talent for years and always felt he was a very special player. Many saw this as fanatism....but clearly now we all agree Federer is simply outstanding and I was was just observing and relaying that amazing talent without having necessarily blind fanatism in my judgement.
Yes I like the player, he seems very balanced, though of course with a tough of arrogance, but who can judge him on this? Unless you are as blessed as he is talent wise and behave more modestly, we cannot quite give him the stick for that slight smugness.
He gave me 10 years of great joy sportwise cause he has been able to produce his talent under the most difficult situations pressure and physical wise.
Frankly, I woudl have got quickly bored of tennis to watch Hewitt, Roddick, Nadal, Djoko and Murray win and share the 17 slams Fed grasped. He alone allowed the sport to remain a skilled sport at the very top. We could not rely on Davydenko, Llodra or Stepanek to win those slams, as talented as they were, they needed more...they needed that "genius" touch.
I hope he keeps amazing us and when he goes I hope someone of his caliber will take over. I don't think I have seen this player yet.
Proof I am not a fan!

Of course you are a fan Tenez.
The problem is you are a tennis purist on top and have been indulged in 10 years of utmost tennis purist luxury called Roger Federer.
I have restrained myself emotionally with him as I have been put off by his resurging arrogance.
I don't begrudge him, but it's those fine things you can't lie yourself about and force yourself to love somebody.
Now and then when he kept it in check, it was hard to keep the lid on, because if I had gone for him I would've been a total gonner with all the beauty he serves on the court.
Glad Nole popped up when he did

Yes GP I saw the rest and I agree that he played better even than at the AO10. More aggressive and as composed...while facing a better Andy Murray.
His peaks are less consistent than before but there are as good if not better in patches.

Well yes you can always say I am a fan. But am I blinded his personality? Do I want to know where he spends his holidays? and more importantly, do I emphasise too much the extend of his talent?
No is the answer to those 3 questions. I am stunned that someone possesses as much talent and is able to deliver it under the toughest circumstances.
I am also impressed when other players win slams but not as much as they use much more power and stamina to do so these days.
Just as an example look at Murray, he is able to serve 10mph faster than Fed.

There's nothing wrong in being a fan.
You don't need to be blinded by a player's personality in order to be a fan, either.
The better the player, the less that comes into play. Just look at Wooffie, the guy has neither tennis nor personality and she's still crazy about him

Yes and that is what I call a fan. There is nothing fanatic about my liking of Federer and his tennis.
But anyway my main point was that I have spent 7 years writing about how special this player is....and it's becoming more and more obvious how special he is.

My definition is different. Apart from tennis per se, I allow myself to enjoy a lot more, and that includes players personalities that come through their game. tennis game is a battlefield and a small picture or real life.
Every good match tells so many stories we all live on a daily basis.
Imagine if all players were Federer clones.

OK,Tenez. You are not a fan.

Or imagine if all players were like fidgety, infantile Djoko?
