Hello all... Longtime reader(bbc shame on you!), 1st article!
Midfield, clearly everyone has their opinion, but wums and door handles will be deleted.
Reading about delembe being an option/bid for - you think he will be converted into a dm? Is he a strong forward (yaya toure in the hole type player)
Moutino -could be the long term answer (improvement??) to scholes - can pass well and tackle!
Just seen this article too... anyone know or got any feedback on these options... no doubt they are already on utd's radar..(i hope!!)

The absolutely perfect midfielder for us would be Felliani. I've said earlier that I doubt Sir Alex will buy anyone for many reasons but if he's in the market for a tough, skillful player with an eye for goal who won't cost anything over £20 million then i'll drive him to Old Trafford myself.

Funrob..not a bad shout...holds the ball up..good threat in the air, has a nasty streak too. Perhaps not dynamic enough..I don't know ?

It's so true whoever said above that when we are linked with a player their perceived ability often shoots up on here. Moutinho is a classic example. Although at least he plays in CM, which is more than many of the players that get mentioned.
Dembele is the latest player perceived by some as the clear answer to our CM problems, even though he's a natural forward / second striker, that was bought to play in that position from the Dutch league for £5m in the summer of 2010, and played there until Jol started using him in CM during last season. He's now been linked to United in the media, and suddenly he's the main man to replace one of the best ever central midfielders at one of the worlds elite clubs.
Just because Scholes started life as a forward and switched as a youngster to CM that doesn't mean Dembele is the new Scholes. If he does turn out to be consistently top class in his new CM position, and worthy of that position at one of the worlds biggest clubs, then great, but surely we need to see him in CM for more than a dozen or so games before hailing him the latest messiah.

I've said for a long time I'd ideally like to see two CMs to massively improve the quality in depth at the club in the most important position. They could then bed into the squad alongside players like Scholes and Giggs who are steeped in United's play/preparation before they retire next summer. Pogba's of course already gone, as has Park. Fletcher is not going to be around soon if at all, and I'd personally sell Anderson. However I expect SAF will be looking for one CM this summer and maybe another next.
In an ideal world I'd like to see a combination like Martinez and Modric brought in. Even much cheaper alternatives like Strootman and Sahin would be a massive improvement. Normally I'd be against signing any club's rejected players like Sahin, as we are looking to improve on our rivals. However this is Madrid we are talking about and they bin players like Sneidjer and Robben.

For what its worth i like Dembele as a player a lot. Who knew Valencia was going to be this good given he came from an unfashionable club?
Dembele is fast, technically good and can play in a number of positions.
I think people need to drop this idea of a like for like replacement for Scholes. It doesnt really work like that we just need to evolve. Look at Carrick, essentially he replaced Keane, but was nothing like him.

I have always said my number one choice would be Javier Martinez - but he would be very expensive but he is certainly available but it seems SAF does not like buying players from Spain but sure likes selling players to Spain.
Martinez or Modric would do. Other than that, a lot of cheaper options there. Borja Valero( cheap but very talented), Ever Banega, even Esteban Granero would be an improvement on our current personnel.
Also, Chek Tiote deserves a mention as does Cabaye but going into a season without reinforcements would be beyond stupid.

I dont think people are saying the new guy needs to be just like Scholes, but someone who's specialist position is actually central midfield like him would be nice.
Valencia wasnt a right back who'd just played a dozen games further up the pitch so Wigan could field their best players, and Carrick wasn't a very recently converted forward when he was bought.
Players can obviously switch positions successfully, but buying someone who's hardly played in the position you want them for doesn't seem ideal when you're one of the biggest clubs in the world, and trying to create the best team in the world.

martinez would be the dream signing IMO, he would compliment the players we already have in midfield. martinez + carrick. or Martinez + anderson, Martinez + scholes etc.
unfortunately I don't think we can/would sign him. modric has been mentioned a lot but I personally do not think he is the player we need.
sahin is a fabulous midfielder and might be on the shop window if madrid sign modric as rumoured, he is the reason I started watching dortmund in the bundesliga and I was so gutted when madrid signed him for pennies.
