Hi Guys.
I've noticed over the past few years that the squad number-39-has become a really popular choice amongst footballers, though I've never really been bothered to post an article about it..
Many of these seem to be forwards, Craig Bellamy, Nicolas Anelka, DJ Campbell, Darren Bent, and even Jonathan Woodgate have all had this number on the back of their respective club shirts.
I've also been tempted to have that as 'my number' from now on on the back of my football kits as I like 'random numbers' instead of the usual 1-25's that we see more commonly..
...Out of sheer curiosity, does ANYBODY know what the biggun is with this number?
Is it in the similar department as the number 23 or 32?
Or, will we as football fans label a striker in the future as 'the classic number 39' or even it's own 'role'? - I know Nico has had it for years but it's caught on recently..
Sorry to keep going on, it's probs nothing, but curiosity is one of those things

It's one above 38 and one below 40, no other number could say that, I guess that's why people like it. Why do goalies like being Number 1?

Because that's historically the default number for a keeper..

Obviously not every goal keeper would wear it but almost every club's keeper sports that number!

Dan Brown is putting pen to paper as we speak. The world eagerly awaits the publication of 'The Anelka Code'.
