There have been many "great" managers over the years, but who is the best? many contenders in there ie herbert chapman, sir alex ferguson, bill shankly, bob paisley, sir matt busby, brian clough, stan cullis, don revie, jock stein etc (apologies for many missed out) but who do people think is the best? could jose mourinho in time be considered the greatest? please discuss!

As said previous, paisley just had to steer it in the right direction, fergie had to design, build and drive it.

Paisley never even built a team, he inherited it

He never won the FA Cup either.
Even Harry won the FA Cup.

Not sure why I always get that one back to front.
Probably because I was steaming drunk during, and for about two days after, the game.

Ridiculous comment. He started building as soon as Shankly left. After the 77 Cup final the team was rebuilt again...
Keegan left, Smith and Clemence soon after. Dalglish, Souness, Hansen all arrived. Totally new look side.
The foundations were in place and he inherited the core values but to say he didn't build and mould his own teams is rubbish.
Anyway, I'll stick with Clough.

Althought not top on my list but the late great Bobby Robson often tends to get over looked and would feature pretty highly for me
