Houllier

Would be nice if GH stayed on at Villa in an upstairs role or maybe in a senior scouting position, identifying young talent and transfer targets, especially from abroad. That is one thing we will miss with him, his contacts and influence on the continent. I know he has a dodgy ticker, but this would enable him to stay in the game, but without the same stress levels of a day-to-day manager. Come back GH and stay with us!

Would Mc Leish be happy with that though, im sure he has his own mind on whom he wants to bring to the club. Tyhere is no point Houllier bringing in a load of talented youngsters if none of tyhem fit into Mc Leish system.

Won't happen, which is a bit of a pity, because GH obviously already had a list of targets for this summer, and in spite of last season I think the results would have been good. But if AM shows no sign in picking up GH's list, and as far as we know he doesn't, then there's no point in GH sticking around.

GH was the wrong fit for Villa, a move upstairs wouldn't change that.

Just hope we're not jumping from the french frying pan into the Scottish ginger fire...

I will maintain my typical Villa pessimistic outlook until about xmas...

Fulham tickets secured. Be nice to see some movement (inbound) in the transfer market before then.

UTV.

GH was the wrong fit for Villa

He was certainly a shock to the system! And he was a bit more out of touch with the PL than he probably realised. But I like the idea of Villa playing modern football, and it's one of very few ways we can challenge for the top, so I'd have liked to have seen what another year would have brought. Same reason I'd have liked to see Rijkaard given a go.

Houllier, in spite of some dreadful performances, started to get Villa to play a good system of passing and movement. McParland is right, another season would have been good. But at the end of the day, would Houllier of even been able to hold onto players such as Young and Downing? Probably not.

You're probably right, Downing just possibly, we'll never know if his change of loyalties was to do with GH's illness. But GH was well equipped to dig out good replacements. That's history, unfortunately ...

Indeed. Footballs a dynamic business for us fans, got to accept change I suppose.
