Just wanted to share my frustrations about fans attitudes towards our younger players.
I see many fans on forae like this having a go at the likes of Pogba and Fryers etc for wanting to leave. I can understand the frustrations as these are/were talented lads
Yet I also see fans slating youngsters like Darron Gibson when they were at the club, who although not as talented as say pogba appeared to be was happy to be 5th choice and sit on the bench quietly waiting for any scrap of opportunity offered
thoughts?

duncan - I was referring to the injuries

like i say mate, in hindsight yeah, but you cant keep that many players on incase you have a injury list as long as your arm.
like you say, he's getting playing time at everton and is probably enjoying playing under less pressure.

That's understandable RR, I had no problems with him being 5th choice midfielder. I just felt Ferguson showed a lot of favouritism towards him, and sometimes he played in games where he shouldn't have in my opinion.
People do expect too much straight away from our young players. But then as soon as they do anything good they get massively overhyped. Welbeck is the newest flavour of the month, just as Chicha was the season before.
People say "we shouldn't sign this player as it will stunt Chicha and Danny's development", and in some respects I agree. But if said player is clearly a much better player than those two, and will benefit the team more than they do, then they'd be valuable additions.
People are saying they don't want Kagawa near the firs team as it will hinder Danny. If Danny can it face competition for places he's at the wrong team. He's got huge potential but had not done anything to suggest he should play every game. Not even Rooney should have that tag.

Yes I agree Welbeck is over hyped, therefor over rated, and fans expect too much of him.... he hasnt shown superman performances as yet...Gibbs on the other hand just wasn't up to United standards...dispite his long-distance screamers....I believe SAF has lost a lot by not using Berbs more often (good grief, he cost enough) and any guy that scores five goals in one game in the PL shouldn't be riveted to the bench seat!

How is Welbeck over hyped or overrated?
He had a solid season for sunderland and came back and proved he can cut it in our first team!!
What do people HONESTLY expect from players??!

i actually agree on welbeck to a degree.
whilst i dont think he is overhyped, im not sure he is ready to lead the line YET like some people do.
i think he needs a bit of work on his finishing, which can be pretty poor, however i think his overall game is very good.

Dunc
Agreed.
I`m not saying he`s the be all and end all for us, yet. But he`s certainly done more than enough for people to be pleased with his improvement and his prospects of eventually becoming a force for United for years to come.

Sorry but bringing through talented youngsters ain't rocket science.
It's about coaching, mentality and talent. Barca are bringing through top drawer players every season because they have te right infrastructure in place.
A club like utd should be on the same level but were not.
As for the op what are you getting at exactly?
Gibson was a poor footballer, people wernt keen on him playing, what's the issue?

Dannyboy is certainly overhyped. People think he is Alan Shearer or something.
I like Welbeck, always rated and believed he would turn out to be a top player but i felt (and still do) think he is not YET ready to lead the line on a regular basis for a team of United's stature.
Other fans think he is the clone of Bestie and if you disagree, they hurl juvenile, impotent insults like 'Plastic'.

With Wellbeck he is still very much a work in progress. Very few, if any, forwards can lead the line for united at his age. I personally think he is a fantastic talent with the potential to be great.
And last season there were a few posters on here taking pops at him. It's always the same tho and those fans will end up looking silly again as they have with their TossCarrick, Fletcher, Nani observations over the years.

there was an article the other day about falcao, and i said i'd be more than happy if he joined united.
all of a sudden a few people got their knickers in a twist and started abnging on about holding back welbeck etc.
as said above, welbeck isnt the finished article and can only improve by working with top players, and when it comes to finishing, which is welbecks weak point, theyre arent many better than falcao at the moment.
besides, we will be looking at 60 games a season, EVERYONE will get their fair share of games.
im all for giving youth and home products a chance, but if theyre not quite ready, than we have to look at the present also.
