Afternoon Bhoys, and Bears
So Dundee take Rangers place in the SPL, so there is a easy 12 points in the bag for us
So Rangers will be in division 3 next season and will have to work there way up, reasing some of the rags over the weekend, made me laugh like the chairman of St Mirren saying that 5 clubs could be liquidated with Rangers going into the 3rd division, SHOCK , of course it s going to effect the whole of scottish football, but how much we will have to wait and see.
I see our game last night our strikers couldn't find the back of the net, with a very important game coming up in the CL quailfier and we don't have any new faces, but don't worry like Stokes said we don't need Rangers as we have europe.....well play like we did last night we won't?
Now down the pub last night we were all taking bets to when Celtic would have the league wrapped up, now I have gone for by the end of January, but most said Christmas, now the intresting point was if Celtic do wrap up the league by Christmas do we think we will still get 40-45,000 a game.....maybe for this year we might, but if this was to happen again next season, then not a chance
Now if we don't qualify for the CL group stages, I can see us selling 1 or 2 big names to keep the bookes afloat.
Now I know i feel like I am repeating myself but some of the celtic fans on here are over the moon that Rangers are starting from the bottom again and, to make me laugh saying they won't miss the old firm, games WTF.....so our league is that great that yes you are going to look forward to St Mirren next season, or hold on we now have Dundee, AYE CAN'T WAIT......
I would love it if I was proved wrong next seaon trust me I would hold my hands up and say fair doos, but we all know that our game has changed for the better, I for one would say no and yes, yes as now we will see allot of home grown players coming through that wasn't getting a chance, but the same time the attraction has just become like the Irish league's as we will be know as small fish, like it or not
Anyawy I hope alot of decent bears are still on here next season...

Rangers were still about in the 80s, and Money didn't rule football then, unfortunatly now things cost allot more money

Television ruined Scottish Football, it gave the Old Firm the licence to have even more of a financial advantage over the rest and thus made the rest poorer and killed off attendances.

"Whats the difference between the competitiveness of Scottish football in the 80's and now? What changed? and why can't it return?"
Aberdeen and Dundee United were European trophy winners and finalists in the 80s
What changed is that money started dictating how good a team is.
That cant return until the financail football bubble bursts, and Uefa, with their financail fair play initiative's, are trying to do that, so the rich stop getting richer while the poor keeping sinking further

Financial Fair Play is a sham.
All it does is keep the traditional big clubs where they are forever.
Unless a small clubs spends money on players and becomes successful, then it cannot ever generate enough revenue to compete with the bigger clubs.

With us romping the league each year do you honestly see fans coming back to the stands?
Second place will be up for grabs but will any scottish team do well in europe in the next couple of season s if we don't spend.....Look what spurs did to hearts and that was with Rangers.......
Our game needs a masive re-vamp and the guys in charge at the moment are defo not the ones to do it .

"Financial Fair Play is a sham."
Its a step in the right direction at least.
If it wasnt for Platini, Celtic would be facing the Benfica's and Chelsea's of this world in the Champions League qualifiers and not the relative minnows
Its a start at least and anything that makes the playing field a bit more level across Europe is something I'm all for.

In my opinion the advent of the Champions League changed the way football was, for ever.
In the 80's, teams from smaller league set ups stood a chance of European glory with a 2 legged tie against larger teams.
Uefa changed all this to accommodate the richer leagues and the TV money.
Scottish football and probably Rangers in particular wanted a piece of that pie and started replacing home grown players with foreign stars. The English were banned from Europe for a number of years and Rangers had practically the English national team playing for them.
The rest is history now and we are where we are and i don't think there's any point in looking back.
Celtic will dominate Scottish football for years to come but it won't be enough for the fans or the board because Europe is where the money is.

Last 16...twice........to cant even qualify for the Europa
The standard has already dropped mate.
You've went on and on about the team you have got Brum mate.......a team that had to get into the Europa through the back door last season
==========================
But that team of Strachans was based on a team of players at their peak, early 30's..when the legs went we were forced to rebuild a whole squad from scratch under Mowbray.
We now have a decent young squad who will have the benefit of playing together for a few years now - I think that was an advantage Rangers had the last few years was that continuity within the squad.
As I said selling backup midfielders shouldn't effect should the scouts find another gem or two

and the part you are missing mate, is that with Rangers gone out of the league, and no challenge ahed of you other than Europe, how much is that going to affect the appeal of Celtic??? no mater who the scouts look at, tip Lennon off about, or howevr your club shows interest in.
You've said the plan for the last couple of years has been to sign players to sell on.
I agree that is and still will be the case.
The point is, without old firm games being showcased on Sky and worlwide and a competitive season from August to May, the only decent shop window players have a Celtic now is Europe, and all that is guarantedd i qualifiers that poeple wont watch in great numbers.
The scouts may find another gem or two......that gem might want a better stepping stone than a club with no challenge that cant pay better wages than a championship club
