Carroll In or Out?

That is the question.

How are Liverpool fans feeling towards the possible loss of Carroll on loan or permanently.

For me, if he doesn't fit Rodgers' philosophy and he won't find use for a big target man that feeds on high deep crosses then he should go. It isn't fair on the player who would no doubt not enjoy a role he isn't used to or excel in. It is also detrimental to the club who would be paying wages for a player that they won't use.

On the other hand if Rodgers sees a way of using Carroll in a way that will provide many goals then he should stay. I think the bottom line is - will he benefit the team?

As far as my understanding goes Rodgers likes his teams to play through the defence or get the ball to the byline and drill a cross through the 6 yard box. This playing style to me doesn't seem like it would suit Carroll. He likes his front three to be interchangeable, quick with their feet and if possible fast or tricky, but above all technical. I'm not convinced Carroll possesses these attributes at a high enough standard for Rodgers' playing style to work.

There is no doubt Carroll is a decent player but he only made an impact when other players in the team were disregarded. Yes he had a good end to last season. He scored like half his goals in the final month?! But one good month shouldn't be enough to change a philosophy.

One of Liverpool's most famous motto's of late has been no player is bigger than the club. Carroll was expensive and yes he is talented but he should not change the way an entire team functions to accommodate him. A favourite saying of mine for last season was a square peg for a circular hole or something like that. He will do great for a team that plays direct to the forward.

With Rodgers at the helm I'd expect Liverpool to be patient on the ball and move it around deeper looking for a sudden change of pace in the final third mostly done on the deck through the use of clever off the ball movement by strikers between the opponents midfield and defence. Carroll is good at attacking the ball in the box but not much else.

Who knows, Rodgers might have him firing this season but I'd not be too sad to see him leave as I think Liverpool will hold him back and Carroll will stop Rodgers pursuing more suited players.

What are your thoughts towards Carroll? A loan would be a travesty in my opinion, especially to a team in the same league.

The only person's opinion that matters is Rodgers.

He is the manager, our new manager, and I will support whatever decision he takes.

Before everyone builds themselves up to berate Rodgers for a decision on a player, why don't we see how the team do first?

Sure if we are 7th at Xmas struggling for goals and Carroll has scored a ton for whoever he ends up with, Rodgers will deserve whatever criticism comes his way, but that hasn't happened yet, so lets wait and see what happens, with or without Carroll.

If we were to receive a bid of £17m - £20m, then I'd take it. With Kuyt, Maxi and Carroll moving on that would free up around £240k a week and with the £20m we could get a couple more in.

This appears to be a transfer generated by the Press. There's been no official confirmation, either by LFC or Newcastle that a deal is being thrashed out. The Press can speculate till they are blue in the face - Newcastle today have upped their offer. Really? BR will decide when or if AC stays or goes. We are all getting carried away people on the coat tails of the Press. Let's just wait and see eh? jimmyTheRed

Presumably until we get a replacement striker AC is going nowhere. You can't start the season with a new boy like Borini and no back up.

I think that's why we are also being linked with Dempsey!

Why on earth would any club pay 20 million for Carroll? He wasn't worth 20 million when Liverpool bought him, so he's definitely not worth in now.

JIM.

It's not generated by the press. It's generated by the fact BR doesn't want him and Newcastle do.
