Very often I see the likes of Chamakh, Denilson, Diaby, Park, Bendtner, Squillaci, and Vela described as flops. I think while some players have certainly not played to expectations and are definite flops, some players have been harshly tagged as flops.
Ju Young Park - I see many Arsenal fans saying do away with him, he is dead wood, he is a flop. I think Park has not been giving enough opportunities to prove him self. He has hardly made 5 starts for Arsenal. Calling him a flop is quite harsh and unfair.
Chamakh - Yes he has played more than Park, but when he had an extended run he scored some goals albeit not much. Last season he hardly played more than 20mins at a time. Its hard for a striker to make an impact with that kind of involvement. I believe people have judged him as a flop based on last season. Which is unfair.
Diaby - Any one who has seen Diaby play knows he has talent and ability. But because of his injury record people tag him as a flop. That is totally unfair to the lad considering the contributions he has made in the past.
Vela- See Chamakh.
There are clearly those who have played lots of football for Arsenal and still have not impressed. Denilson and Squillaci the obvious ones, I would argue Ramsey as well. Ramsey played alot for us last season and many of his performances were woeful. But nobody ever calls him a flop.
Defining Flops.

Looking at squillaci's experience at club level and international level he was the biggest flop, also he is on 50k a week and we paid close to 5m for him.

Chamakh has turned into a flop, even if he played all the time he still wouldn't do anything, he just ain't mentally there!
I think it's best for him to start off in a new team!

What? He got lots of chit last season. I don't want to write him off because he's Welsh and he was so good before injury.

Also,

This is spot on I think. He just needs a new start, doesn't seem cut out for the PL which is a shame after a promising start. As a 'big man' option up front we now have Giroud and if Bendtner stays he has at least proved himself after another decent season, this time at Sunderland. Not first choice material but good back-up.

I agreed with that and did mention it before.
Chamakh is the perferct example of what is wrong at the moment in football.
He could have gone to Fiorentina, who where very interested and have a fresh start and prouve himself. But nope, he decide not to take a pay-cut and stay on the bench. He shows no passion or desire to play anymore. Definitely flop for me!

A flop is someone like Downing at Liverpool. Loads of game time but for a winger he has nothing to show for a whole season of work in the league, producing 0 goals and 0 assists.
I think Downing should be the benchmark for all future flops. There's not living up to expectations and then there's excelling in not living up to expectations which = Downing.....

they are all top flops.
i'd put arshavin in that category as well, although others want.
Downing @ Liverpool? he is a superflop.

Fiorentina baulked at the asking price which was quoted at 4 M.
They bought el Hamdoui instead for less than 1 M.
