Kick It Out and Ferdinand

Morning all.

I was just wondering, am I the only one that's been thoroughly unimpressed with the deafening silence from some quarters throughout this "Choc Ice" business?

Personally, I find it fairly distasteful that activists such as the Kick It Out campaign have been quiet about it - I'm 99.99% sure that if the races involved were reversed, and one white footballer was laughing and joking about a tweet which labelled another white footballer as black inside because he testified on behalf of black footballer, there would be uproar.

Kick It Out don't seem to have said anything, ditto Clarke Carlisle on his Twitter. I checked Jason Roberts' Twitter because he usually weighs in on incidents like this, and he seemed to be genuinely bemused that it could be considered racist, ostensibly because the subject of the tweet, Ashley Cole, is black.

Nothing, then, about the glaring underlying point that people of different races should base things like courtroom testimony (or anything else for that matter) on the colour of the different people involved. It's all quite ugly and I really think Kick It Out are undermining their own "equality" message by keeping schtum, considering how vocal they've been about other instances where the issue of race comes up.

Please note that this isn't a dig at Ferdinand or United, nor do I want it to become such a discussion because there's been plenty of debate about it already. I just wanted to know if other people felt the same way as me about how the incident is being viewed (and, indeed, not viewed in some cases!) by those people that a lot of the public turn to when racism in football is brought up.

Didi - good point.

Once the race issue is finished will we start on the religion issue? Human nature, rightly or wrongly, makes us pick up on each others differences. It is unlikely to change but for our small part we should be open to change.
