Whilst I understand that with dual contracts, Rangers have broken the rules by not disclosing them to the SFA, I don't understand how Rangers have gained a sporting advantage and therefore cheated. If the tax tribunal decides that Rangers have used EBT's in the correct way - and at the moment they are innocent until proven guilty - then the only thing they are guilty of is not telling the SFA. Had they have told the SFA, then there wouldn't have been a case for them to answer, and everything else would have stayed the same. Where is the sporting advantage?

Aye, by paper-trail I wasn;t talking about physical pieces of paper ffs
I just meant that if we HAVE misused the scheme (which is likely) and we haven't covered our own back and been pretty blatant about it and left plenty of evidence to prove that we have, then it's pretty arrogant to think that it wouldn't be called up at some point, when you're using a scheme that follows strict rules around their use
The only "evidence" I've seen so far, was the email from Martin Bain asking for a bonus to be paid via an EBT. If it had originally been pencilled in as a PAYE payment and he had been the one who instigated the payment being made via the EBT, then it only proves that one payment was questionable, not the whole scheme....

Hillbilly, Celtic don't have any beef with the taxman as it was paid up.......................so if we had not went bust and managed to square things things with the tax man everything would be hunky dory. It's like saying It's o.k. to cheat just dinnae get caught

Nope, hillbilly, it's not as black and white as that really.
And as I have said, if Celtic improperly registered a player under this scheme, and the price is removal of titles, then so be it.
Spartans got pumped out of the cup for forgetting to countersign a form.

Aye Tim It's all a bit complicated. The thing with Spartans is just plain stupid. I know we have rules but why couldn't the official no have went over to Spartans and said....excuse me but you forgot to sign the form, here's a pen.

A dunno, i can see both sides of the argument.
I think if the charges are so palpable that it amounts to cheating then yes, we should have titles taken off us but wether it was actually as bad as that i dont know, because as you say whats the difference in sporting advantage if the SFA knew about it or not?

Clearly lost in all the other mess but the titles being questioned are NOT for the use of EBT's.
The EBT's equate to tax an only the HMRC are still pushing for answers on this due to unpaid tax and the legality of it as a legitimate payment method.
The titles are related to the use of duel contracts put in place to pay the player via the EBT - not the actual EBT itself.
If the contracts are found to be true and not therefore registered with the SFA as all payments to players from the clubs have to be, then Rangers can have titles stripped...

meant to put - the question is - has the EBT's not been used to pay the players would:
a) the player came for the reduced wage (plain basic)
b) Rangers been able to afford the entire wage through the normal practice of payment.
If the answer is that the players only came due to the uplift through this payment method then yes an unfair advantage has been gained.
Tough one to prove tho.

EBTs were declared in our accounts filed at Companies House and also submitted to the SFA so why did they not raise it then.

Its not true that EBTs automatically mean a non payment of tax. Billy Dodds received payment by EBT but paid the tax, for example. There will probably be others who did the same.

It doesn't matter the facts, nor does it matter what you (OP) and I think. The authorities and other fans have made up their mind. As I keep saying we live in a Mickey Mouse country and our saga has shown it time and time again.
FFS going Newco is a legitimate way to exit administration. Only in Scotland is this treated as a New club. Only in Scotland is the same so called New club (in their eyes) treated as the old one for fines etc and that's perfectly ok. Only in Scotland are rules and punishments being made up.
The SPL and SFA are just making up rules etc so they can seen to be treating Rangers 'the same as any other club'. Yet no other club is treated the same.
