Van Persie only cost us £2.75 million anyway and I think if Arsenal do make Van Persie see his final year out it could to a certain extent be a good idea. Van Persie will be 30 next Summer which would mean he may not be in high demand to other clubs compared to how he is currently. Teams may feel paying a player who has just turned 30 wages of £200,000+ silly and may feel put off by trying to sign him.
Which would mean Van Persie may then just have to stay at Arsenal

Also, if he has a poor season or spends it injured again, it will save the other team money and a squad place.
