Final Fantasy Versus XIII Cancelled?

rumours are going around that Square Enix have scrapped plans for Final Fantasy Versus XIII.

IGN have just reported it and they are awaitng confirmation.

i thought this was already in the process of being made? it was supposed to have been released this year

interesting states that they may still release a FFXViii or they will save the versus game and make it into FFXV
