power in world football continues.....
Ajax Cape Town are every bit as good as United
Toronto FC are as good as Liverpool
Birmingham are as good as Borussia Monchengladbach
Motherwell are Evertons equal......... you get the picture!
yeah we were hammered 4-0 by a good Ajax team in a pre-season friendly WOW! The way some of us are carrying on is ridiculous. Sure it was a shocking performance and overall effort, but its pre-season, the most important thing s to gain fitness.
If we beat Real (possible) in our next friendly does that make us champions league contenders, obviously not! So get over this meaningless defeat. Yeah it would have been nice to have won, but we didn't. I will worry when the team shows a similar lack of enthusiasm and competence in a competitive fixture, until then I have faith in Lennon and the team!
The huge shift in..

It's not meaningless when the basic flaws remain evident, both in terms of tactics and personnel.
How many games did you watch last season when we failed to make the opposition keeper work during the first half?

If we have learned something from it, it is not meaningless. That's what pre-season friendlies are for.
If it means that Lenny ditches any idea of 3-5-2, then all well and good. If it shows the board that we need to buy some quality players if we want to compete in Europe at any meaningful level, that that will be another lesson learned.
Can't wait for real football to start.

Tim - Chill out, as Show said, if lenny now knows 3-5-2 will only work in the SPL well and good.
Show - by meaningless I meant the result Obviously some experimentation/exploitation of tactical flaws are of value to us.

Just sayin'.
I backed Lennon to the hilt, especially last autumn when some fans wanted him out.
But I want to watch attacking football. I want the team to pass the ball in the opposition half, not among our defenders.
Lennon must have this side sorted out before the competitive games start. I don't think it's being too dramatic to expect that.

Tim - when the team play with that same lack of conviction and competence in a competitive game that's when I will worry. We played some lovely football last year, what makes you think we will not play attacking football this year? A single bad performance in a bounce game? Chill out man.

Dundalk
I'm only saying that the same structural weaknesses are evident. I know it's pre season but some things have not been addressed. In among the lovely football were many extremely turgid displays, where we had perhaps 2 shots on goal the entire game. They have not improved the squad, and by all accounts, they will not.
There is absolutely no way that side is making it to the champ lge groups.

I agree we need to strengthen. Although that may be even more difficult than in previous seasons unfortunately.
