Just a quick article looking people's thoughts on SAF's change of tack in this years window regarding admitting we are after certain players. Previous big transfer sagas where it looks like £20m+ will be spent is always met with a shroud of secrecy and a vigorous denial from the club if the media suggest who the next signing will be. Does anyone have any suggestions though why SAF has come out and openly admitted interest in two expensive targets? Could it perhaps be that a deal is already wrapped up and completing them both after declaring interest will boost our ailing reputation in the market? Or has he just been put under pressure from elsewhere to declare interest? Personally in the past if a club like Arsenal had said we had bid for one of their players Fergie would of denied it so why the change of approach?

Personally I'm pretty sure fergie has spoken about targets in the past, at least fleating mentions of them.
I think everyones exagerating the whole he never talks about signings malarky.

I think he knows he has only one or two seasons left in him and wants a last hurrah and will do it in style. The glazers owe him that and it looks like they will back him.

If we got RVP and Lucas I genuinely think a shot at the European Cup is not beyond the realms of possibility, if we kept everyone fit of course.

Probably because we are a lot closer to completing this Lucas deal than we were with, say, the Sneijder one.
With RVP, Arsenal spilled the beans there - Fergie didnt have a choice but to admit it really.

Stretty, your probably right but I don't remember him openly talking about a target other than De Gea and that was wrapped up, apart from small details.

SAF has talked about a few transfer targets in the past, although he doesn't make a habit of it. However, with Lucas and RVP it is the other club that has revealed the bids, not us. Rafael also opened his gob regarding Lucas too and confirmed it wasn't just paper talk.
