Essien is playing well so far in pre-season
He looks fit, healthy, strong, lively and just looks like a good defensive midfielder.

I am staggered by the number of Chelsea fans who want Essien offloaded, what have we got to lose by giving him this year to prove himself? Not much at all but if he can get back to even 90% of where he was then we have a quality player on our hands. He will unlikely ever get back to his box-to-box best (not that we really need that with 4-2-3-1 anyway now) but he still has the quality and attitude to succeed and I can see him tailoring his game to work around his injuries and make a quality DM.

Honestly he is extremely lazy at marking he doesnt get close enough to a player in ball.

Definitely seems to have gained a little bit more mobility. Would still sell him though.
