Hello fellow JA606ers, first off apologies for not creating this prediciton thread yesterday, was busy and by the time I had the time to make the article, the opening ceremony was on. Obviously I'm aware the Olympics has already officially begun, however none of the events of today should affect the predictions in this article.
So there will be 5 different prediction sections, each looking at a different aspect of the games.
1) Winning countries for each event
In this section all you need to do is write the country you think will win the most golds in that event, in the case two countries are equal on gold medals, the country with the most silvers, and then most bronze medals will be the 'winning country' in that event. You will be awarded 5 points for each correct prediction. If any predictor gets all the countries right, they will be awarded a further 25 bonus points

2) Free points... surely?
In this section all you have to do is list 3 athletes/teams who you think will win gold medals, easy as that! If all your listed athletes/teams win gold you will be awarded 20 points. However, if one fails in their pursuit for a gold medal, you will be awarded no points, even if your other two athlete's/teams win gold.
Notes:
- You cannot list the same athlete more than once
- You cannot list 3 athlete's in the same team. For example, you cannot list 3 of the GB rowers, as they only participate in a single event.

3) Usain Bolt
This section is fairly simple. All you have to do is predict whether Usain Bolt will beat his world record time of 9.58 seconds at the London Olympics. You will be awarded 10 points for a correct answer.
a) Yes, Usain Bolt will break his world record.
b) No, Usain Bolt won't break his world record.
4) Great Britain Medal Tally
In this section you will need to predict how many gold medals Team GB will win at the games, as well as how many gold, silver and bronze medals.
a) How many gold medals will Team GB win?
You will be awarded:
-10 points if you are within a 10 medal radius.
-20 points if you are within a 5 medal radius.
-40 points if you get the exact gold medal tally correct.
b) How many gold, silver and bronze medals will Team GB win?
You will be awarded:
-10 points if you are within a 50 medal radius.
-20 points if you are within a 20 medal radius.
-50 points if you get the exact gold medal tally correct.
5) Final Olympic table standings
In this final section, you have to predict the Top 10 countries in the Olympic standings, You will be awarded 10 points for each correct placement of the country within the standings.

I predict that the BBC commentators will still be slapping each other on the back and instead of commentating on the 2012 Olympics reminding each other about when they ran, swam, biked etc! back in the year dot. They had their time and some wonderful achievements but why oh why can't they let it go. Apart from anything else it is an insult to today's young athletes who have worked darned hard to get here.
