Liverpool ended their tour of North America with a goalless draw against Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday night.
The Reds made a very nervy start to the game, conceding a corner kick in less than 10 seconds in. But as the first half wore on, Liverpool settled and started playing better football, although Spurs were probably the better team in a relatively uneventful half.
Spurs always threatened with their pace down the flanks, as Gareth Bale and Aaron Lennon looked to get behind the Liverpool fullbacks and send dangerous balls into the box, but nobody managed to convert these. At the other end, Liverpool did not have much luck either as there was only really a solitary effort from Jonjo Shelvey which was saved in the first half. But as the half was coming to a close, Lennon was presented with a glorious opportunity that he incredibly missed. The ball came to him on the right of the goal and, just a yard out and with the goal at his mercy, he only succeeded in hitting it against the post before it was cleared to safety.
In the second half Liverpool looked much improved and were the better side. Bale had been injured by Charlie Adam in the first half for Spurs and was withdrawn at the break. And with Raheem Sterling now on the pitch for Liverpool, it was they who looked to frighten the opposition with pace.
There was also first appearances in pre-season for England internationals Steven Gerrard, Jordan Henderson and Andy Carroll, while new signing Fabio Borini also got a half-hour runout, although he did not really get many chances to show what he could do. With the clock ticking towards full time, a better ball into the box from Sterling could well have presented Borini with the chance to net a debut winning goal, but Sterling's delivery was poor and easily intercepted.
Neither side managed to make the breakthrough but the second half display by Liverpool will be an encouragement to Brendan Rodgers and the fans, as they now turn their attention to the UEFA Europa League when they face FC Gomel of Belarus on Thursday night in the third qualifying round.

FSG's job is nothing to do with team requirements, they employ people to do that.

So are you saying BR has failed to respond to replacing two full international players in time for the start of our new season?
-------------------------------------------------
Oh I'm sorry, I didn't know the transfer window had closed. My bad.

A Europa League qualifier where first team players may not play starts. Furthermore we have players coming through who can play on the right, Cole back and we don't actually play with wingers but wide forwards. Borini has come in and we have over a month left of the transfer window. For crying out loud, let it drop, you bore.

Manfrom, there's five more weeks before the transfer season closes. We are strengthening, the USA trip has identified Rodolfo's efforts in bringing on new talent from within. Raheem, Pacheco, Suso, Adam, they are all progressing. Yes, we can all find fault, and moan, but please, give it time. We will get there. JimmyTheRed

Not moaning, just stating my feelings. I'm sure we will land another player or two, but the season starts on Thursday, our training camp is over and we have a lot of the first team only meeting the manager for the first time this week, slow in the transfer market and a first choice keeper who hasn't been heard from in a month.
Ok, maybe I am moaning, but its hot and humid here, so I'm a little grumpy.

OK, let's hope it works out, but I have my doubts.

Aggers, what's the matter friend? You appear way off course. The club is defo WIP. It won't be achieved overnight. Tonight's game showed how far we've come; more realistically, how far we have to go. While both you and Manfrom have clear views, the fact of the matter is that, now that BR is in charge, with the quiet revolution beginning t show, it will take time. Patience, mate, I know how you feel, but I don't share your concern, Brendan will get us there. jimmyTheRed

I'm impressed with what I have seen and I think we gave the spurs a great game. In fact we were better. Jimmy I'm with mate. I think we will do alright next year. Better than some may think. Don't worry about additions, they'll come. The market is not moving yet, it will do. You'll see. It is always slow cause everyone is checking their options out. Don't want bidding wars. It will sort itself out. I'm not worried. I think we will be surprised.
