As much as we resented RvP stabbing us in the back and coming out in the media that we lacked ambition it is definitely something we have all thought for a long time, you only have to track back a couple of months on this forum to see multiple daily articles on it. Now all of a sudden we have signed the player that was probably the vital cog in winning the French league last year, a player who has had 100 caps at International level and is a proven goal scorer and regular starter for one of the world's greatest footballing nations and it is now looking increasingly likely we will sign a player who in my opinion would get into almost every, if not every team in world football (open for debate). Add to this the fact we are looking at Sahin, who is a player who no doubt faltered at Real Madrid but he still drove a Dortmund team onto a turning point in their history where they conquered the all star Bayern team.
Now I think this sudden ambition could be a turning point at our club, we are not spending stupid money but we are spending money and going for sought after, established players which is something we haven't done really since the Arshavin signing. I don't know the reasoning behind this sudden ambition but something tells me van Persie publicly humiliating Arsenal might have put the key in the ignition. I don't think the ambition was there before hand because surely Wenger would have told RvP and this is surely enough for him to want to stay? Maybe I'm wrong and it was always his desire to leave but if I'm not and the board and Wenger are splashing cash to try and save face then we could look back in a few years and a few trophies time when van Persie is rotting at Lazio and say "thank you RvP, you accidentally and catastrophically sacrificed yourself for our club." Strange notion.
Arsenal's Lack Of Ambition

Yep, we all forgot about Niang but for some reason, he is the one I am looking forward to watch.
I think he could have the same impact that Ba or Cisse had for newcastle, which is for a 17 years old, damn good!

I thought he could become a regular player at Arsenal. He had plenty of chances. And the silly mistake he did is, asking Wenger he wants go home in the previous season. Had he stayed in England, he would have got some chances given Wilshere is injured and Ramsey was not his best. Poor decision really.

Would like to think that we have included an option/agreement to purchase on the loan with Denilson as you say he will be into the final year of his afc contract.

With Lex, about Denilson.

Arteta does Denilson's job, but 10 times better!

It was €4m for Vela, not £££s.
Apparently the sell-on clause is quite high though.

Sorry to be a buzzkill but I'm finding all the premature gloating at the expense of RVP a bit tedious. You all know as well as I do that no matter which of the 3 clubs RVP ends up at that he has been linked with, they will be far better equipped to win trophies than ourselves.
I do hope that what looks like the signing of Cazorla and possibly Sahin puts some doubt in his mind about him not wanting to sign a new contract. People that hold RVP's statement against him, in my opinion are fools. He has only said what EVERY single one of us have been saying for years. That the club lacks ambition. If these possible signings are a knee jerk reaction to his statement, then if anything he has saved the club and not damaged it. I just hope we can still get him to extend his contract. Forget the likes of M'Vila, Cazorla, Sahin - RVP extending his contract is the best signing we will make if it happens.

Batmanu you are wrong. RVP's statement was purely selfish. It wasn't from concern or anger at the club, it was to lower his selling price and force a move. It was designed purely to damage Arsenal's position and the man is frankly disgusting for treating Arsenal in the manner that he did.

What was selfish about the statement? In the main it was accurate and to the point.
RvP wants to move on and progress his career. Thanks, and good luck to him.
