and seeing wall to wall coverage of our glorious day at the Olympics yesterday, which yielded two golds, the feel good factor has been slightly tempered, when looking at the medal table Kazakhstan have in fact won three gold medals.
Do we tend to overhype everything in this country, not just our football?

Who cares if we overhype it. the Olympics is on our soil and we should embrace every event we compete in!
I may be a bit more enthusiastic if I was allowed anywhere near the Olympic Park. As a community charge payer in London, I have contributed money towards the building of the Stadium, etc. And on visiting Stratford yesterday, I find I am not allowed anywhere near the Park without a ticket for an event. Hardly an Olympics for the people is it.

Sorry to hear that Sandy, that's quite wrong I reckon. I'd thought about going up to have a look around myself but had the same worries (not getting let in).
There was a piece on BBC News yesterday about how it's the quietest summer for over twenty years in central London tourist areas. Why? Because they all got bl00dy Olympic tickets, while all us Brits have to make do watching at home

Me and the missus just went for a ride, not that far for us, but it is still a bit annoying, that Londoners are not allowed into the park, just to have a stroll around and soak up the atmosphere.

By that pretext, nobody would ever be allowed into an airport. I thought that is why £70 million was being spent on security to check people going in and out.

True Sandy
but if they opened up the olyimpic village to the public it would be a nightmare and totally over crowded and cause all sorts of problems

If you think Britain is doing poorly, spare a thought for the Russians. They seem to get more atrocious with every Games since the Soviet era. They've lost their edge in their previous strongholds.

Thank goodness you're not in charge of security. What a chaotic Olympics we may have had.
