It seems to me that Walcott's brinkmanship (and that's clearly what it is) over signing a new deal might just be backfiring on him. I guess him and his agent didn't consider the fact that Arsenal might sign a superior player that plays in his position. Theo has been lucky for the last couple of seasons that there's not really been anyone to genuinely compete for his place. It's made him get a bit big for his boots imo.
I know we're hoping to see Cazorla playing in a more central role, and he surely will at the start of the season at least, but if (big if) the likes of Wilshere, Rosicky and Diaby get and stay fit, we might find Cazorla playing his natural position on the right wing. Guess who that shunts to the bench!
And what with Ox getting more experienced and better, considering he was already beginning to push Theo for a place, it seems that Walcott's bargaining position over getting a huge payrise might just be getting weaker. And I don't see a huge number of clubs coming in for him. Might be that he should just take what he's been offered and be happy with it, because it might get to the point where Wenger really isn't too bothered about losing him, and Liverpool really isn't a great place for English wingers to be...
I like Theo and want him to stay, but I must say I do find it amusing when contract games like these get thrown back in players' (and agents) faces! Lack of ambition my arsenal.
Theo, I think you dun goofed

Theo is a great talent and a key player in our long term ambitions. To just let him go when we've finally signed a player perfect to play with him will be suicide for Arsenal.

Walcott is effective against high line denfenses, but useless against defenses that sit back/are solid.

Exactly. Which is why he needs a player like Cazorla to open the defensive lock and feed those through balls in.

While I do think Walcott is a useful player (due to his pace) to have around, he is far from 'key player' material.

I understand your point, and your point is well made, however there are two major issues we have to contend with before we start to count our chickens. Firstly, we haven't jet signed Carzola. Secondly, Carzola, undeniably a good player, but that doesn't mean that he is going to settle into the 'Arsenal way' of play.
You know what to expect from Walcott so once again don't count your chickens!

Cazorla will definitely settle into the arsenal way of playing. He is too good not to (according to most). The challenge for him will be adapting to the increased intensity of this league.

If Cazorla doesn't sign I will eat my hat, and I don't even have a hat. I will go out and buy a hat especially to eat it, that's how confident I am.
