So, here we are, just 23 days away from the opening game of the season, and still no decent strike force. Where are the replacements for Mellor, Teale and Heffers? The friendly in Austria showed that defensively we are pretty sound, but even Meggo himself stated the urgency for goals! All well and done Gary, but who's supposed to get them? Where's the strike partnership and where's the missing winger to feed them? The trotters warned us that this could happen, even if their presence wasn't welcome on our forums. This current lack of strikers doesn't bode well! 46 0-0 draws gives us 46 points at the end of the season, you need to score to win a game. Come on Meggo, come on MM, get your fingers out, cos times quickly running out! UTO!

No, we should wait until just before kick off and then sign Franny Jeffers.

So it seems that deals are in the pipeline and being thrashed out. It's not like we're not looking!

It's true there are a few more weeks before the market closes, but really we want our boys in..and training together BEFORE the Rochdale game. I mean for once, just once can we look like a set, and ready to go team rather than start the season yet again and have the gaffer say
" yeah well we didn't look as good as I'd like because I still haven't got the right men I want for the job!"
No this scenario has not yet happened, but it's looking increasingy like it could..
Let's just hope the next couple of weeks are very busy paperwork-wise

I hear what you're saying and I don't think saying it means you want 'knee-jerk' signings, whatever they are, after all, there's been plenty of time for Megson decide on which players we want.
Maybe things are taking longer than anticipated but it would be nice to see some developments soon; all we've done so far is bring in 2 defensive midfielders and replace Spurr..

Well when Mandaric wants someone, he gets them so we could get O'Grady.

Meggo was supposed to have made up a wish-list of 9 players. 4 have been brought in....Mellor is playing hard to get, Dyer has told us to sod off, Koumas we haven't heard a thing about, O'Grady seems a possibility if the cash is right and the Scotland interest seems to be a figment of someone's imagination. Batth is still a loan possibility, but 4 from 9 at this stage in the game is a worrying situation. I think the additions so far have been excellent, but work still has to be done in order to get a team ready for the first kick off worthy of getting a flying start to the new season. Promotion has to be a must!!! We can't afford to play catch-up!!

To get four from a wish list of nine is an above average achievement.

Very true and also very commendable, but there is also such a thing as plan B for those you don't manage to get, especially if you've left gaps in your attack (or anywhere else for that matter)! 2 strikers and a winger have all gone out and nobody's come in to replace them as yet! Yes, there is still time, but it's very worrying and frustrating for those of us hoping and praying some plan B has been set in place for a while. I'm not suggesting a knee-jerk reaction. I believe, and certainly expect, Megson had his eye on quite a few options well before he let Teale and Heffers go. If not, then we're in trouble! I'm just wondering if he got too over-confident about Mellor signing on the dotted line!

Starting the season with Madine and Morrison up front is better then most sides in this league will have.
Plus we have the option of JJ and Modest.
I think we will probably see a new face by the end of the week. Hopefully a CF and then a LM could finish the squad off.
