According to reports we have signed Peltier on a 3 year deal with suggestions of a fee for the best part of £1m.
He's a promising player of just 25yrs & has plenty of time to improve even more & may become a more valuable commodity than he currently is.
Why just the 3 yr deal then given our recent history of players contracts running down & being forced to flog them on the cheap else risk losing them for nowt?
People like Bromby were given 4yr deals & i personally think our policy in respect of contracts is very much flawed.

Bromby was given it by a different manager who thought Bromby would hack it at the level above so we'd get the use out of him.
In the next 3 years we'd hope to be in the Premiership and Warnock may not know if he's good enough to hack it up there, it's best to make the assessment nearer to the time.

yeah 3 years is a normal contract....plus time to assess...

Pro - i hear what ur saying but, i rather suspect that it's not necessarily the manager who decides the length of contract.
Calculated gambles but, with our history i would like to see players like Peltier secured on an initial 4yr deal given his age.

Yes the board decide but the manager will have some say.
If we reckon a player is going to be able to play for us for the next 4 years, then they'll sign him for that long and the board will be fine.
If Grayson felt Bromby was able to play at Championship level then 1 season at League One and 3 at Championship is quite realistic, or 2 at League One and 2 at Championship, depending how it felt.
I think under Warnock he's getting the best players on long contracts IF he can, you have to remember the players want a contract that suits them. Bromby may have only signed with a 4 yearer. We've given Lees a 4 year contract and I think we gave Becchio one whilst he was banging them in. Injury stopped his season dead early last season.

What makes me laugh is players that join on trial from teams like Lille and have genuine class never sign.....and then players like Crainey and Varney turn up and get contracts straight away. What happened to that French lad??

Been French automatically makes you class...

To give him a four year deal would be madness

Warnock is supposedly with us for a year.
We'll be in same situation in 12 months with new manager wanting to get rid of last manager's dross and bring his own players in.
Nothing wrong with 3 years for a younger player like Peltier, can always extend, but our policy is to deliberately allow the contracts of higher value players run down so that there is an excuse to sell at 12 months left.

Warnock said he wants one last challenge, and Leeds couldn't be bettered!..
If the newbies want him to stay on then it'd be ideal for him/them to make longer contacts for players here, and the longer/better the contract the more chance of getting the player you want!..
If all goes well then maybe Warnock will challenge a longer contract himself, that way bringing himself into line with the players he's signed!..
Better these contracts then one year ones players have been offered at Leeds, they work that little less then walk when the times up!..
If people had thought that bit more and done a little more then maybe one or two of our better players would still be with us, or be on the list for a bit more then we've been getting!..

Why can't people understand that it was a Grayson problem and Grayson has gone?
It was Grayson who gave long contracts to players such as Bromby, then dropped him after less than a year.
It was Grayson who couldn't identify the value of players like Beckford, Howson and Snodgrass, and tie them down accordingly.
Don't forget that all three of those players were dropped at various stages of the LEAGUE ONE promotion run in, with Howson and Snodgrass dropped for a must win game!
