I am saying that when it comes to failing to sign these players, we win the gold medal. Have you finally accepted that the whole being in line with the plc spending argument is a wee bit silly yet, having inadvertently backed me up on that one?!

no its pretty much in line... plus considering the rise in players wages over the last 6 years (wages is now the biggest factor in football transfers not fees) they probably spend a lot more on 'players' than the PLC did

No it's not in line. And if you had any notion of the time value of money and took one look at the worth of money and the natural rise in transfer values in this time period, you would realise that you are wrong. I refuse to believe that you don't understand something so basic as this.

I'll make it very simple for you. 20 million now is worth less than 20 million 8 years ago. That is true in every walk of life. Football is no exception. So to compare transfer fees and wages now with those of the plc era is like comparing apples and oranges. If someone were to come along and time adjust the prices and wages, and also factor in the general trend in football transfers and wages, then you would have a more objective measure. But I am yet to see such a study take place.

'the natural rise is footballers wages'

what does this mean? They have spiralled out of control. I will match your patronising and say... I refuse to believe that you don't understand something so basic as this.

How much has money changed in value due to time since 2006? to make much of a difference either way.

Do you think that United have made up these transfer claims. Are the selling clubs lying about offers received? You have not answered that.

Transfer values have increased enough to make any claim that our expenditure is in line with the plc days. And given how long you clung on to that ridiculous argument, I am still not convinced you understand. Apples and oranges.

An offer received and a deal completed are not one and the same. T-4 years. And 20 million does become worth less every single year too. That's how inflation and the time value of money works, you see

thanks for the economic lesson. I never knew what inflation was before.

If i use does that make me right too?

What makes you think that these deals wont be completed, and if they are not how does that mean that united didnt have the money in the first place. I don't think you fully understand professional football.

There are hundreds of reasons why transfers are not completed.

So, let me get this straight, your gripe is that we do not spend more than 20m on one player?

However we still manage to sign quality players, like Valencia, Chicarito, De Gea, Young, Nani, Anderson, Vidic, Evra, Hargreaves, Smalling, Jones etc

That is indeed a silly argument, the quality of the player is what is important not the transfer fee.

Pretty sure you would be one of the first people slating a player who flopped and complain about his transfer fee.

The argument is actually not only silly but very stupid. We do not spend 20m on a player but just spent over 50m last summer and are looking to spend similar this summer.

Your argument makes no sense whatsoever. It's pointless straw clutching.

You would think with the crazy market we are in these days, you would applaud your club for being sensible in signing players and not going out and blowing money just to make some fans feel good about themselves.

Sad

One senior figure at a leading Premier League club claimed privately last week that United had earned the condescending tag of ‘nomoney.com’ within boardrooms because of their reluctance, or inability, to compete at the top end of the transfer market in recent seasons.
====================

So this senior figure has no name. Hmm

What a load of ballacks. The telegraph has always had it in for us and they've got you hook line and sinker here.

If you look at most of the people we have been linked with, they have been outwith the PL, so how can people in the prem give us a nickname when we haven't looked into signing prem players for huge transfer fees recently?

That link is even sillier than your argument

It is almost as if some fans think there there is a trophy for 'spending big' or by doing so is a 'representation of power'. Every club tries to pay as little as they can for their players, yes even City. Some do it better than others.

To dismiss wage demands as a factor in todays transfer market is crazy. In the PLC days how many players at the top clubs were earning 100k+ compared to today. 100K is an insult these days to many 'top players'. This shows how wages are spiraling and you can factor in as much 'time line inflation' (inflation has been insignificant during this period) it doesnt even scratch the surface of it. To call it a 'natural rise is footballers wages' is wreckless. How much has your wages gone up in the last 5 years?

United have a wage structure unlike many other top clubs. Thats why the likes of Sneijder dont play for us. Long may it continue.
