and you could be challenging Arsenal for 4th place.
You have a good team even with Modric looking like he could leave:
----------------Friedel
Walker-Kaboul-Vertonghen-BAE
Lennon-Sandro-(Signing)-Bale
-----------------VDV
---------------(Signing)
In my opinion you have a better squad than Arsenal, but not a better first team. You have players like Sigurdsson, Dawson, Caulker, Defoe, Huddlestone and Parker who are good for back up.
I think Sigurosson is a good player, but he's too attacking for a CM role and I can see him being used as a back up/rotation to VDV.
Personally I think all you to do is sign a quality young ST like Damiao or Lewandowski, a more experienced one like Klaas Jan Huntelaar or Soldado. With a new CM like Moutinho from Porto.
You would walk past Arsenal and challenge Chelsea for 3rd IMO.
This obviously wouldn't be cheap, my estimate would be around £60M, but you are currently being left behind by City, United, Chelsea and Arsenal.
Fair enough if you don't have the money for it, perhaps take Moutinho out of it as it isn't essential like ST.
I would sell players like Gallas, Jenas, Bentley, Bassong, and one of Gomes and Cudicini and depending on that amount you recieve for these players, you could possibly push to sign Lloris for around £15M, but that's definately pushing it.
Thoughts?

RVP will be gone soon i am sure of it

Like when you were sure Tottenham would finish 10 points ahead of Arsenal?
Or sure Arsenal would slip up and Tottenham will finish above them?
Or when you were definitely sure that Chelsea would not win the CL?

Fair and accurate assessment on what we need to add to our squad but I wouldn't say ours is better than arsenal's anymore. Last season I'd have said yes but since then we've sold corluka, pav, pienaar, niko and obviously The King while arsenal have added players to their squad (to the tune of around £40m, who says they don't spend any money...)
Last year we could have named a possible bench (long-term injured players excluded) of:
Cudicini, gallas, corluka, sandro, pienaar, defoe, pav.
Compared to a bench now of:
Cudicini, caulker, gallas, hudd, dos santos, rose, Kane....

If think we need to sign two strikers, a CM (if Luka goes) and winger, then we are pretty much good to go. A lot of guff gets spoken about the state of our squad. I reckon we could do with just the two strikers until January even and still be ok.
We have let a few go, and have Vert, Caulker and Siggy that have bolstered other positions. I expect Naughton to be in the squad as FB cover after his Norwich loan, and Huddlestone is back fit again after missing the whole season. No panic here.

Diary doesnt really play as an orthodox CM in a pair does he? Very hard to compare him to either Parker or Hudd to be honest, who both play deeper (albeit different from eachother) roles.
If offered a swap I'd trade Parker for him, but Huddlestone is much underrated by fans of other teams. There is no way in the world I'd ever swap him for Diaby, not a chance. A different league? You must be on the crack pipe son

If I had the choice of two of the strikers mentioned OP, it would have to be Soldado and Damaio.
Both fit the mould and sell-on status of Levy's business model.
AVB stating that we only need one striker is leading me in my infinite denial to believe that one is already being tied up and is maybe delayed due to involvement in the Olympics...

Blah blah blah every season we hear this and every season we finish above - getting abit boring now.
