Evening everyone. Afraid to say this is going to be yet another article discussing next season's line-up, although at least this is going to be all about a certain position.
That position is CB. What I have noticed is that in approximately 80% of the Chelsea board's teams for next season the centre back pairing is Cahill and Terry. I have always said that Luiz should be one of the first names on the teamsheet, and here is my much overdue article on the matter.
If it were up to me, the debate would be over Terry vs Cahill. Argue away at that if you will, but I am going to tell you that Luiz is a must for the coming season, just as he was for the last season. Ever since the signing of the floppy-haired Brazilian I have maintained, as Carlo believed, that he will one day be one of the best centre-backs on the planet.
Unfortunately, since his arrival David Luiz has picked up a poor reputation, and as we all know first impressions last, particularly in the fickle eyes of opposing supporters. However, I did not mind too much the occasional wildness that was littered amongst the brilliance in his first six months under Carlo Ancelotti as coming from the Portuguese League was always going to take some time to get used to for a player of such flair and ambition.
Now the doubters will quote the next 8 months of reckless runs up field, horrible marking throughout and being controlled by a "ten year old on a PlayStation". I will counter this by saying that I believe that this was the fault of (you guessed it!) Andre Villas-Boas. The Portuguese saw an ideal player to lay the foundations of his style of football on, and you can understand why. A run up field from Luiz may well result in a goal at either end; just what Roman likes. Therefore it is my opinion that AVB encouraged this reckless approach and further decreased the reputation of this talented individual.
And then came Roberto di Matteo. His more cautious approach caused a dramatic turn around. No longer did we see horrible marking and positioning, while we still saw the flair that made him a fan favourite.
Because I can't be bothered to type anymore, read this article:
http://www.telegraph.co.uk/sport/football/teams/chelsea/9172445/David-Luiz-now-a-cornerstone-of-Chelseas-future.html
"Luiz continued to be derided as a liability but it’s been lost that his performances have improved. In the last two Champions League matches — at home to Napoli and away to Benfica on Wednesday evening — he has arguably been Chelsea’s best player."
Final note: Luiz, in my opinion, has one of the best passes in our team, behind Mata, McEachran and Benayoun (not including the new boys). His creative and technical side will compliment the new boys massively in a way that Cahill and Terry won't (although both are still very technically talented players for centre-backs).
LUIZ IS A MUST FOR NEXT SEASON!

Luiz will be world class in a few years, but in pre-season he's gone back to wanting to play as a Striker again. Based on pre-season, it should probably be Cahill-Terry

Even as a non-Chelsea fan, i rate Luiz very highly. Technically, he is as good as certain midfielders and he is a consummate professional.

He probably wanted to play as striker through frustration watching everyone above the defence being so dire at attacking

We were conceding goals left right centre when AVB was in charge.
