With apologies to all those looking forward to the Burton Mail headline on Monday - they will inevitably go with that one.
Well, what a start to our competitive season ! Absolutely brilliant. I am really buzzing. Everyone had a blinder.
We were always going to be on the backfoot for most of the game. The moronic seeding system pitted us away at a team who made the league 1 play offs last season. Yet they were made to look really ordinary by our hard work, effort and endeavour. Even the referee, who had a red and white striped shirt on under his black outfit, couldn't help them - though he tried his best for 120 minutes to be fair.
The much maligned Yussuf rolled one in on the half hour and other than a good save from Ross and a header that hit the post, we weren't really troubled in the first half.
A howler from Ross. 1-1.
Then we went to extra time. Cleveland, who had done nothing all game, decided to blast one home and it was 1-2.
Then an incident in the penalty area. A 50 / 50 and a robust shoulder charge from Stanno was all the referee needed to point to the spot. 9 times out of 10, it wouldn't be given. Mr Blade was in no doubt. I suppose to be fair, if it is against you it is a definite penalty. If you support the defending team, it is a fair challenge.
Half the team were booked protesting.
Poor penalty, Ross saved it but only spooned it out for a tap in.
Holness then gave too many Fs and was booked twice.
We got through to penalties without any scares. Some great spot kicks by both teams apart from Bell for us (mile wide) and some Blade bloke (two miles over the bar). In to sudden death and Ross saves one leaving Cleveland with the chance to win it.
All that for a tenner.
I had some great times last season. This game will be one of my favourite moments of the season next May without a doubt.
I was particularly impressed with Diamond and McCrory.

I'm delighted by our spirit, determination and work rate, seems Gary is installing his virtues on the team!
Don't think Steve Evans will take us lightly after reading this scoreline!
I can't wait for next week at the New York Stadium, just hope we offer the same commitment and deliver a similar result!
Come on you Brewers!!!

Swindon fan in peace.
Excellent result for you and very encouraging after the difficulties you had in the second half of last season. Please get a result next Saturday against the ghastly and despicable Steve Evans.
Good luck for the season.

Don't be upset by the chants of that lot Steve. Most of them haven't started shaving yet. I was probably like that when I was their age but maturity, wisdom, respect and decency kicks in later in life.
The day that I stand up when I am told to ended with my last day at school. I stand up to applaud, encourage and support when I want to and not when someone tells me to. Besides, I had 2 elderly supporters sat behind me who had paid money to watch a football match - not my back. Respect for others.

Otep my friend.
I must take you too task about everyone had a blinder.
For 90mins plus most of the first half of extra time we played with 10 men.
Yes he scored a good goal but Cleveland Taylor was a complete waste of time.
Some commented he wouldn't get in a sunday league side.
Up till the goal he was absolutely hopeless.
Will critisise Rowetts substitutions has he seemed to settle for penalties before the 90 mins was up.
Our second goal was completely against the run of play.
Have to agree we looked solid at the back and apart from there first goal Atkins was solid.
Good hings too come i hope.

No Pez, you're right. I did hover over the keyboard when I said everyone had a blinder because I would say that some players didn't. Cleveland was one of them. But I suppose if you have a couple of game changing moments it makes up for it.
But for his goal and converting the final penalty he was atrocious. I must admit to having two 'Oh no' Cleveland moments. When he scored I thought 'Oh no, that's him getting a start for the next 15 games'. The other moment was when he stepped up to take that penalty but he converted it so I should have had more faith.
I thought Chris Palmer was quite poor aswell.

Thought defensively the team looked extremely well organised Saturday.
Bell and Weir love a tackle and cover the back four admirably.
Even the two wingers tracked back well, although both offered nothing going forward.
McCrory looks a much better footballer than Aaron.
Holness, although clumsy will battle with strikers all day long. Stupid sending off though.
Diamond looks just that, a diamond. Composed, assured, just oozes class.
Not a huge fan of Stanton at RB and would personally hope he'll move central with Diamond when a proper RB is purchased. Did ok there though.
Atkins shot stopping is top draw, no doubt about that. But how many more goals will he give away? Who knows.
Roll on next week

After doing a sterling job last season and during the Euros......is Sepp (I mean Otep) starting the Brewers prediction league again?

Definitely. We are going to get through all 46 games aswell this season if we have the interest.
I think I will roll matchday 1 on to the board tomorrow night so get thinking about Rotherham.

Absolutely delighted with the win. Unfortunately didn't make the match, but cannot wait to head to the New York Stadium on Saturday!
