Just a small match thread to get us ready !

Town head to Preston for our first competitive game of what could be a great season.

After the exploits & glory at a barmy May day at Wembley we find ourselves at the start of the 2012-13 season. Things differ this year, because the Olympic games have been on ( if you hadn’t noticed ) the season starts 2 weeks later that usual, meaning our first competitive game is the League cup.

We have had a mixed pre season, with draws in Scotland, defeats to Guiesley, Crewe & Barcelona B, but had an encouraging 3-0 win at Chesterfield last week with a second string team out against what will be a very good League 2 team.

I will let DARN talk about our new signings & leavers for the first League match thread.

Of our players unavailable for the game due to pathetic International friendlies include, Rhodes, Scannell, Wallace & Norwood.

Previous League cup Meetings

We have met twice before ………………….. and lost them both !

Preston won 1-0 at Leeds Road in 1965 & again 5-2 on aggregate in the 1978-79 season.

This is Towns 6 straight away fixture in the League cup, losing in Round 2 for 6 years running. !

As for the result, a win would be a good boost, to get the coffers in, but it isn't really our top priority this year, Sheff United lost AGAIN on pens yesterday, but i don't think they will be too bothered either !

League meetings 2011-12, both games won by the home side, Town’s win at the then Galpharm was in my opinion our best performance at home all year, Town’s performance at Deepdale was lets just say , very, very poor. !!!

A good test against what I’m sure will be a Preston team close to the top of League 1 this year, but of course the real business starts this Friday !
