This is a long read, so bear with me.
At the beginning of July, Robin van Persie released a statement stating that he would not be signing a new contract. He gave the reason that the club and the player's ambitions did not match. In other words, he decided that Arsenal lacked the ambition to win trophies.
Since that statement was released, we have signed three players who are fully fledged Internationals and performed very well in their respective Leagues last season. It appears that van Persie feels that he would be better served elsewhere. If he wants to win trophies, well Celtic are available.
Now, at the end of last season, van Persie claimed to love the club and the fans of the club. If this was true, would he seriously be contemplating a move to a club that due to being in the same League as us could damage us?
We've showed some ambition, yet it still appears that he would prefer a move elsewhere after a couple of years of showing the potential that Arsene Wenger unlocked. Whatever happens, I will have completely lost respect for the guy. Not because he apparently wishes to leave, but because he was so indirect with his statement that he made his position within the club untenable.
The best thing for us to do would be to hold on to him until his contract runs out. Some of you will say, why keep an apparently unhappy player? It hasn't worked too bad for Tottenham with Modric. It's time to show the players who's boss.

We were always going to sell RVP, how do you think arsenal are going to balance the finances. Players come and go, we will easily move on from this and become a better team than we were last season.

I think RVP needs a new PR man. I think his statement was meant to ruffle the status quo of our transfer policy and I truly believe he wants to stay.
Whoever wrote his statement did not take in account certain phrases that made RVP look like a .
Now due to the statement he will have to grovel to us fans or leave to a club abroad. If he goes to either one of the Manchester clubs he will go down as a worse then Cole and Nasri.
His statement should have been handled better, it left a bitter taste in our mouths. Even if he said 'IF' there is an improvement I would think about signing or I will stay until 2013 and see where the club I love goes, then we may have some respect for him.....

As big a as he has been, lets just wait and see how it pans out. I would be more angry at the club than RVP if we actually do sell to United. Some things are more important than money.

You are all forgetting one thing, the BOARD will not let him walk away for free at the end of next season. Yes, the fans (and Wenger) would be happy for that to happen, but the board will not.
Don't you remember when Flamini left for free, the club stated "we will never let this happen again". Hence the Nasri situation last year, Wenger wanted him to stay...he was sold!
