Someone made the following comment on a United story on the daily mail website...
it's how most transfers are conducted. google "nike helps man utd" or something on those lines and you will see loads of examples. jack rodwell previously with everton sponsored by umbro & who plays for england who are also sponsored by umbro & now joined man city who are also sponsored by umbro, they may have even paid a part of the transfer money, usually around 10%. for example if wenger wants to sell RVP to lets say man city, he needs to get permission from nike first. nike's deal with arsenal is worth hundreds of millions and arsenal cannot even dream of losing that sponsorship. players can only move to another club with the permission of their sponsors. RVP could have gone to man city because of his age but he still plays for holland who are also sponsored by nike, therefore arsenal can only sell to another club controlled by nike such as man utd or juventus. it's even possible he may stay at arsenal who are with nike too. did you really think players or clubs choose?
Hi Millwall fans
is this true

very good point actually thinking about it - never noticed that all 3 (4 including Milan) were Adidas

RvP is sponsored by Adidas.
Regarding sponsorship. A coincidence that since Becks left us all his clubs have ben sponsored by Adidas?
There may be an element of truth in that post, but not to the extent he makes out.

Someone at Nike severely screwed up with Ronaldo, then. And that is just off the top of my head.

And Liverpool are screwed because no one of note plays for a team who are sponsored by Warrior Sports.
They might be able to sign the odd baseball player though.

Wonder if the Nike sponsors at Barca know that the best player in the world runs around in Adidas?

not saying it always happens....but i'd wager its fair too say they at least try and 'influence' their stars in certain directions....

I think we can safely say money does that, these days.
Out of the 500 million City have spent recently, how many of them do you think previously wore Umbro shirts?
