An increasingly common misconception

I've witnessed many United and Arsenal supporters state that van Persie can sign on pre-contract terms for United in January. This is is not the case.

Here's the deal. van Persie can only sign a pre-contract with a FOREIGN team in January. As United are in the same League as Arsenal, they can't even think of signing him on a pre-contract basis until he has one month remaining on his contract. Which is why it'd be in United's best interests to cough up the money.

Just thought that I'd clear that up, so that this error is no longer made.

I'm not "going on like" anything pal.

Prove to me that RVP is making a decision based purely on financial reasons. And then explain why he ruled out megarich City. If you can't prove these things then don't "go on like" you are spouting carp based on nothing.

I would also encourage you to learn how to read properly as you have obviously failed to understand my words despite pasting them into your own comment.

Let me refresh your memory:

" If he is not bothered about joining United then we shouldn't be looking to sign him anyway imo."

Please explain to me which part of this states that I believe United has always been RVP's preferred destination?

Apologies to the (seemingly very few) intelligent Arsenal fans out there but it is not surprising that the commonly held view is that the thickest fans on this forum are Arsenal fans.

You don't have to be so touchy.

I'm not sure any of what i had to say demanded such insults.

RVP did not rule out Man City, they just won't pay Arsenal's asking price and meet his demands. Only Man United are close to his demands.

Then my post is in response to the first part of your statement "Not if RVP wants to join United which is what is being reported", saying that salary expectations being met, has likey played a huge part in his decision and that he'd in fact being in talks with Juventus far ahead of any other club.

I won't stoop to your level by banding insults. Good day!

At the moment ManU are the ONLY club publically expressing an interest in him. His preference for United is mere speculation by the idle feckwit hacks of th tabloid press. I believe Fergie is desparate to get RvP signed now because he is apparently the only one willing flash the cash at the moment. Juve et al can afford to wait until Jan when they can speak to him "pre-contract" and offer hime a huge salary (with all their tax advatages) and I can guarantee that they will not be RvP's only suitors come January. It is in United's interests to get him now, wait and he may be gone. I would like to see AW stick to his guns and hold on to RvP - who publically at least has shown no signs of being anything other than a model professional since his "lack of ambition" outburst (Mr.Modric take note ). That way Arsenal get to keep a key player who may well replicate last season's form, taking some of the pressure off the new signings to produce immediately, and who knows how a successful start to the season may affect RvP's thinking ?

It would be in Arsenal's best interests to cash in on him and not lose him on a free.

If not they are effectively paying 20m to keep him for one season which makes no sense at all.

Not to a team in the same League. Arsenal don't need money, they may take the money though, seeing as they seem to enjoy that. Arsenal don't really lose that much anyway from keeping him. The player is approaching 30 and will have no re-sale value.

You sold Nasri though and Clichy. I could go on. You are a selling club and you will sell Van Persie as well

Be it January, be it June... it is all a bit hypothetical now isn't it.

Looks like it's all but done, but I won't say anything until it's completed.

Yup, selling club

A bit of humility wouldn't go amiss.
