Fixing Matches

The 2002 world cup was definitely dodgy.

The host countries, South Korea and Japan, not known for their footballing prowess, got to the 1/4 and semi finals respectively. While strong teams from Italy, Argentina and France all went out very early in dubious circumstances. The lead sponsors - McDs, Pepsi, Nike, Visa - were all American and saw their nation progress to the 1/4s too! Hmmm...

Now we have news of Italian, Turkish, Romanian, Bulgarian, Swiss match fixing, and in Asia, the Chinese President has described corruption within China's domestic football scene as a national disgrace.

Remember Chelsea v Barca a few years back? Semi-final of the CL and Chelsea winning before a referee hell-bent on sending Barca through managed to do just that. Someone didn't want a re-run of the Chelsea v Mank final.

Van Persie sent off against Barca this season for a ridiculously trumped up offence. Then, Bendtner fluffing a winning chance that any bog-standard player on Hackney Marshes could have put away. Does he have the same agent as Fashanu and Grobelaar?

Not forgetting FIFA who couldn't be more corrupt if they tried.

It's a fix!

It's a fix!

===================================

Yeah it is sammy but we all know that and there appears to be nothing anyone can do to "unfix" it.

Good point Ranna! That thought had escaped me.

That Barca vs Chelsea match was an absolute joke!

I remember going crazy at the tv on Chelsea's behalf and I'm not even a Chelsea fan

The referee who sent Van Persie off has been appointed head referee by FIFA. But don't worry, if there's any controversy about him, I'm sure he'll be exonerated by Fifa's "ethics committee".

Yay for kangaroo courts.

Seriously though, why can't we just end Switzerland now?
