From a personal point of view Rafa will be greatly missed at this US Open.
The tour has many kinds of styles and players and to beat Rafa you will generally be tested to the limit. Some people don't like his powerful physique and his bludgeoning style, and moonballing but I love it because he is unique.
If you beat Rafa then you are probably close to being in the semifinal or even the final of something big. He provides drama everytime he plays because of his brilliance.
The rest can be happy because he is injured and they have one less tough match to think about. I hope Rafa gets well soon.

Dont know why the Murray fans are getting excited...if Murray wins the U.S Open you know his critics will say he only won cause El Toro wasn't in the draw
It will also give them ammunition to take something away for winning gold too
Its not like theres no substance to it....after all as they say..no one beats a healthy fully fit Nadal

Jonty, nadal would not have been of much influence at USO anyway but he does bring something extra to the plate.
I was too involved in the Olympics for past 2 weeks. Loved it, BBC did a fantastic job to cover it. I am not that keen on tennis at the moment. It is not that interesting especially after Wimby. It seems all the history is now made so nothing left to see now.

-----------
He's made it to at least Semis for last 4 years, why do you think he wouldn't be an influence?
Agreed, loved the Olympics, saw it in a completely different way seeing as it was here, have now become a big Ruta Meilutyte fan, in fact, i'm going to add her to my profile now....it needs updating!

Because hard court has never been rafa's fav surface and without match practice he would have been a sitting duck.
You did a good job in spelling the name of Lithuanian girl, she was snesational. I liked the smile of Laura Croft, oh sorry Trott as well. Bit sad on queen vic to miss 2 golds.

I predicted Ruta would win from the heats, was just something about her and I loved her post gold medal interview, brilliant!
Re Nadal, he's a good record at both US and Aus since 2007 his record is 2 QF, 3 SF and 4 Finals...not bad for a Clay courter wouldn't you say?

Yes Nadal will be missed badly at US Open.I have lost a lot of my interest in tennis without Rafa but he will come back stronger.
My Chest Hurts or Maksi I think you are spot on about Rafael Nadal. He will be missed badly!
