It's funny

how all the newspapers that are criticising KP for his actions of late, are keen to emphasise that he is not English but South African. Yet early on in his career, when they wanted him so bad, he was an Englishman through and through.

Here's a snippet from a newspaper:

"A person who plays representative cricket in the land of his birth until the age of 20 has declared his identity for all to see, and Pietersen’s is South African."

"ask pakistan cricket what would have happened if afridi didnt play the WC."

Tendulkar would have been dropped for the 6th time?

nah. they wouldnt have faced india. cause they probably wouldnt have reached semis.
but my point was u cannot afford to drop star players of ur team especially on crunch games, and ofcourse t20 wc. kp was the prime reoson why england won that wc and their first ever major trophy in cricket history

It's not just the fact that KP isn't playing though. Its the entire circus surrounding it making for rubbish preparation. Regardless of what the ECB says the team isn't going to be settled, focused etc etc.

You got to feel for Jonny Bairstow. I hope he manages to put up more of a fight than he did against the West Indies.

More importantly than if KP plays or not is will Englands bowlers actually bowl properly for a change?

I fully expect England to put up a good performance in this test. They took 19 wickets at Headingly without bowling their best and Strauss, Trott and Bell have great scoring records at Lords.
Not having Pietersen may prove a blessing in disguise and the idea that only he can save England is laughable.

I am expecting a big Bell score. He looks in form.

England have been flat all year and need to refocus. Whether this gamble wins the final test is debateable. England need to look to the future though. KP (and IMHO Strauss) are not part of the future
