Robin van Persie: Alex Ferguson says forward line is like 1999
Sir Alex Ferguson believes the signing of Robin van Persie means he has a forward line close to matching his legendary 1999 line-up.
Van Persie, 29, is travelling to Manchester on Thursday afternoon to complete his £24m deal and could make his debut at Everton on Monday.
He said: "In 1999 I had Dwight Yorke, Andy Cole, Teddy Sheringham and Ole Gunnar Solskjaer, the four best strikers in Europe.
"We are going towards that now."
United could now have a front line consisting of Van Persie, Wayne Rooney, Javier Hernandez, Danny Welbeck, Shinji Kagawa and Dimitar Berbatov.
"It gives us more strength and more combinations up front," said Ferguson.
"It is a fantastic collection of players and hopefully I pick the right combinations.
"It is great to have a player of Robin van Persie's qualities to come into the squad. I am very pleased."

Do you think he was trying to emulate this all this time after bringing in Hernandez?

At the moment so do I.
Mainly because over the past few seasons we've had bad luck with injuries. If we can keep our CM and defenders fit, I think we'll win it.
Can't forget about Chelsea either.

fergie has always been prone to hyperbole when describing his players, that forward line is scary though want to see how it works out, RVP has become used to being the main man doubt Rooney will like that

"the four best strikers in Europe"
Dunno about that, they were 4 great strikers each with different attributes but there were definitely some better strikers in the Europe in 1999.

Said this the other day but was told it wasn't relevant as trends show you don't need four strikers to compete
