Check this team out

Eboue - Toure - Gallas - Clichy
Nasri - song - fabregas
Adebayour / Rvp

I don't care how fans try to put a positive spin on this but this is now embarrassing.

With Song now on his way, the summer which started of well, is now turning to an absolute joke.

People can criticise Song all they want but wait till the season kicks in and people will realise what we have lost.

A guy who can defend, attack & play in defense as well as being one of our injury free players.

Da Stu:
There was uproar when we sold Merson....but the money was used to sign Overmars. There was likely similar disappointment at the sales of said Dutchman and wonderkid, Nicolas Anelka, but we subsequently signed Henry and Pires.

I think you more or less hit the nail on the head without probably knowing it!!

Merson left, replaced with Overmars
Anelka left replaced with Henry

The players brought in were better than the ones that left, can you honestly say that'll be the case with Song??

Everyones entitled to their opinions but dont pretend like selling Song is a good thing

apart from RVP and Fabregas none of those players are that special. in case you forgot that team never won anything either, you're being a bit of a drama queen.

to Da Silva:
an Arsenal team that has qualified for the CL for the last god knows how many years

wow how the mighty have fallen!
qualifying for Champs lge is the minimum requirement for a club of our stature.

But due to our recent lack of success, its the only thing we can gloat about.

It might be good enough for you but for me, Hell No!

I feel neither selling Song is good nor bad, I feel nothing but apathy towards his potential sale. Which says it all really.

He was very good on several occasions last year I however do not believe losing Alex Song will create a decrease in the teams performance offesnively or defensively and should a legit defensive midfielder be signed (which Song was not) it would be an upgrade due to the plethora of box to box and attacking midfielders Arsenal already have.

I see comparisons here not with the depatures of Cesc, Nasri or RVP who Arsene clearly didn't want to leave but with Overmars, Petit and Hleb (coincidentally were all sold to Barca) where it was Arsene's call to let them go and he did when a lot of people thought he was nuts (admitedlly less so with Hleb).

top guns my post was to the OP. He compared that team to the current team, the team he put doesn't look anything special to me. And I don't rate Song and am happy he's being sold.

Might be. We can't predict the future (and nor can you).

If we got Sahin or M'Villa as 'replacements' (not exactly like-for-like I know) I would be pretty happy with our overall midfield options yep.

Selling a player, even a first choice one, isn't always a portent of doom. Sometimes clubs want to do it.

like your optimism Skins
But going by recent history its highly unlikely that we'll get better replacements.

Well we'll see. I don't think they'd sell Song this sesaon without a contingency. It's not like other players with contracts running out where our hand was forced.

I'm actually writing an article on this issue, so I'm not going to write too much in this comment, but I'm pretty much with Skins on this one.

We really have to wait and see whether or not we replace Song before passing too much judgement on the impact his departure has.
If we sign Sahin or M'Vila, then I would be pretty content.
