van Persie may be like Berbatov

This while saga reminds me an awful lot of the Berbatov situation. When he signed he was also touching on 30 and everyone said the sum of money was far too large for someone of that age. Also when he signed everyone thought United would be unstoppable whereas he actually struggled to adapt to a new team and found it hard not to be the star of the team at Old Trafford which led to names like Berbasloth etc. I can see RVP struggling similarly next season to be honest, he'll struggle to adjust to not getting 20 chances a game like he did with us and a couple of niggling injuries and he's ended the season with 9 goals from 20 games. This isn't me being bitter, if you just look at the massive signatures like Berbatov and Torres they've never really paid instant dividends and I'd be surprised if this one does.

Yep we can dream. I'm actually pleased it's not the other way round and Arsenal desperately signing a 29 year old for zillions (esp one who has a history of injuries).

The difference being that Berbatov was never actually that good, even at Spurs, and wasn't worth anywhere near that much.

Completely different players. RVP is far more dynamic than Berbatov. Also, the number of times Valencia got to the by line and played in quality balls where UNited had no one getting into the box was ridiculous last season. United do not commit men into the box, with everyone dropping too deep. RVP will be a solution to this. Berba was never likely to be.

For a slow slug, RvP's movement in the box is outstanding. His close range finishing less so, though.

I don't think anyone should be making judgements on how well he will do.

There's a key difference here: RvP is better than Berbatov.
