As much as I like VVS as a player, as much as I enjoyed his monumental efforts to save so many tests for india, it is sad to know India will be playing England without 2 legends.(and maybe 3 if for some reoson sachin retires after NZ series- I hope not).
He is a Legend, but the fact is the shoes that this players are leaving behind, are almost impossible to fill. no one till now has filled kapil dev's shoes. and maybe now, no one will ever of dravid and vvs
Dhoni, Sehwag, gambhir Yuvraj now need to step up their game. And not by one or 2 steps. I think now Im worried. England series will be the hardest test for dhoni's captaincy.
Watch this space. VVS is set to announce his retirement tomorrow. And he is planning to play his last test in Hydrabad(his hometown). AS for now enjoy his amazing batting, and Australia's nightmare.

jpb unfortunately the quality of our domestic circuit doesnt allow new players to come in and perform the first time round. Im not even sure how many players in the ranji circuit have faced more than 80mph.
That is why we see players come in odi first to get international exposure and then they get a test call after.

Yes, echo the sentiments of the others. Class act. Seen him up at Aigburth in Liverpool a few years ago although I recall he didn't score many sadly...
Wish him all the best if he's calling it a day, seems a top bloke. Credit to himself.
viru,
On the back of this what about the rest of the old-guard?
Should Tendulkar call it a day after the England tour? There isn't anything left for him to achieve in the game and he deserves to go out in a big series, after England whats on the horizon? Can't see who benefits him carrying on.
Doed Sehwag have long left? Granted he's a bit younger but he seems very injury prone nowadays and a little bit unreliable.
Maybe its time to the bite the bullet and look to the future, the greats can't go on forever.

He's called time now, officially. Sad to see him leave, one of the great Indian batsmen! Reality kicking in for India slowly..first Dravid, now Laxman. Need to build a sold middle order now.

so now he is not playing any farewell matches. Its the end of VVS. Legend for me.
gallop- I have always said tendulkar needs to go from ODIs since long time back. It doesnt change. I think he is looking for that 50th ODIs 100.I guess he deserves to get that chance to get to a wonderful record since he has given so much for indian cricket, but for that he shud have done it long time back by playing odis continuously.
In tests we need him. In england and australia and against WI he was let down by the 100th 100 factor. I guess we will get to see his actual form now and how his reflexes are. But we need one the older players to guide the team. We cant leave the responsibilty on sehwag cause the way he plays. We need him till Aus series atleast
I have no doubt he will play till aus series. He himself said he is looking for the 10month challenging seoson. Now unless he is horribly out of form, we wont see him retire from tests

Don't know why he decided to retire with immediate effect though..would have been perfect if he retired after the NZ series.

Shame to see him go, although you feel his time was up. Quality player who was the glue in an outstanding batting line up. Will remember his double hundred against Aus as one of the great innings.

Great batsman and greater human being. Graceful and humble. We will miss you VVS.

Wonderful player on his day. A credit to India and cricket. Felt he was in the way down whilst touring England last year.
Concerning for India in Tests. That spine us slowly going and doesn't seem to ve replaced.
