We should sell. Let's not do the same dumb thing we did with berbatov were we are losing over half the value with some misguided feeling of depth. The least we can do to correct this stupid signing is to at least hedge the loss of money. hernandez's value will drop like a ton by the end of the year, I assure you.

4th choice player. How many games will he actually start for you? Hardly any.

Exactly.

I'm sorry, I just do not see this guy making it with us. If he stays I predict he'll be up for sale this time next year. And as tomatoes said, his value will have dropped. We'll get half of what we would get now.

Just a few points to the doubters;

Rooney and Van Persie are not going to play between 46 - 68 games for the full 90 minutes every week.

United have never had 4 first team strikers on their books ans successfully rotated them have they?

United have had a player, who came from virtual obscurity, who was used as a super sub, stayed at United for the rest of his career when he could have walked into almost any other club in the league. Or Europe for that matter... he did rather well for himself.

Van Persie 29 years of age
Rooney 26 years of age
Hernandez 24 years of age
Welbeck 21 years of age.

Lovely spread of ages.

He is different to what we have too, a proper in the box finisher.

He will play his part and will play a figure similar to his 28 appearances, in my very humble opinion. He is here to stay.

We didnt do it successfully last season. Do you think any striker will be happy playing the role Berba did last season? This isnt like 99. We now have 2 superstar strikers who are going to be first choice. When one of them is rested/injured, Welbeck will get the nod.

In any case, my issue isnt that he wont get games. Its that he just isnt as good as people seem to think. He's a useful player to have in the squad for sure, but if a decent offer came in i'd take it.

Yorke and Cole were the 2 superstars in 99, they were the first picks and no mistake, so it is just like that.

Beba didn't play because the manager doesn't rate him any more, that is the only reason. It was much like Yorke at the end of his stint at United, his stock fell and he got frozen out..

Sir Alex Ferguson insists the arrival of Robin van Persie will aid – and not prohibit – Danny Welbeck’s development at United. "Danny will learn from playing with Robin, [Wayne] Rooney and Chicharito. I think we have a great combination of strikers now and that's encouraged me." Sir Alex added: "At 21 he's a young boy. He's still growing and has niggles, but he’s going to be a big boy. He won't play every week but when he's 23 or 24 he’ll be a fantastic player."

Would suggest Hernadez is very much 3rd choice, as Sir Alex, rightly see's Danny as an emerging talent, with bags of potential, but not the finished article.

If we sell Hernandez we will just be short in that position again. You said it yourself, "a useful player to have in the squad". Couldn't agree more.

I dont worry about Welbeck. He's good enough to break into the team, I think he's a brilliant player.

Hernandez though, I just dont see him getting much game time at all. Yes I think he's a useful player, but if PSG really are interested, we could get a fair bit of money out of him.

And for the record, I dont think it will leave us short in any position. As well as having Welbeck, Rooney and RVP who can all play up front, we have Kagawa, Nani and Young who can all play the no.10 role. We would still be very well stocked.

I dont think Hernandez will leave this summer. But it wouldnt really concern me if he did.

Based on last season, he clearly isnt.

That is fine I respect your opinion. Of course the injuries that Hernandez suffered meant he never really got any form last year, so that is not as cut and dried as you make it... also 12 league goals isn't a good enough return.

I love Danny Welbeck he is the future for sure and totally agree with you about him, he is excellent what he can learn from others I think will really help him.

I Take your point about Kagawa, and that is an interesting one; will he take time to settle? Will he play on the wing? Will Sir Alex try to move him into the centre mid in some games? He is an exciting player, versatile and really does give us something different. Really can't wait to see him.

But Nani has maybe once played through the middle for us, for all of 10 minutes, Fergie doesn't like him there, I believe we will keep him, but I think the Kagawa signing and the handing of the number 7 shirt to Antonio, (I can't remember if Nani17 is a marketing thing however) plus protracted contract negotiations, probably have him worried. Amazing talent is nothing without consistency at the top level.

Kagawa, Young, Rooney all play better behind a striker. Welbeck hasn't found the prolific scoring touch yet. So this is why I think Hernandez is very much worth keeping, he has his place.

I just think for what he offers us, something very different to the rest, a clinical finisher (along with RVP and Rooney he is worth keeping. I would hate to see him go, I think he is great too.

I respect you opinion and the points you make are good, I just won't ever be convinced selling would be our best option. He can be a massive player for us this year. I love having the options in attack that we have, we didn't score enough last year, I can't see that being an issue this year.

It is all about opinions and we differ on this one. But no worries, good debate.
