Wingers essential, Full Backs covered

We need Priority for us is a couple of quality wingers. Not keen on Enrique as we'd be spending a lot of money on someone who, imo, isn't better than we've already got. Going on 2 quality players for each position I'd have Kelly at rb, Johnson at lb with Flanegan and Robinson as back ups. Kelly was arguably our best player before his injury, displayed solid defending, pace to get past players and whipped in a few crosses, just a pity at the time nobody was in the box. Johnson has argueably had his best performances at lb. Flannegan had proved his credential for the bavk up rb position. Robinson, only one game but what a game he had. Totally owned Walcott and Arshavin. As for wingers I'd like Nzogbia and one other 20 mil pacey. Constructive thoughts?

I agree, I really think N'Zogbia would be a great signing, don't know what people's problems are with him, and anyway, even if he was a bit of a petulant so-and-so then King Kenny will soon sort him out. I really think Eden Hazard is the way forward on the right wing, with N'Zogbia on the left, but I read on the Liverpool website that he's not coming. I propose Andres Guardado instead, I think he plays for a smaller Spanish team, not sure which. I would then play the following:

REINA
KELLY, AGGER, SKRTEL, JOHNSON
HAZARD/GUARDADO, LUCAS, GERRARD, N'ZOGBIA
SUAREZ
CARROLL

YNWA

in terms of wingers I think N'Zogbia is an excellent shout; he is higher rated by wigan fans than valencia ever was and his move to a big club was a huge succes, it should also be noted that both carrol and suarez had worse reputations in terms of attitude before they signed and they seem fine. He also has excellent stats which should stand out in FSG's method of evaluating players, 18 combined goals/assists at a team almost relegated and with an average of 8.8 per game the leagues top dribbler. would be a steal at 10m imo.

for the right my minds not made up, i dont think guadardo as you suggested is a viable candidate, he is a touchline hugging winger and also left footed so wouldnt really be suitable on the right. We have been linked quite alot to Eljehro Eliah -and apparentley tried to get him on a loan to buy in january- who could be a good option. I think it would be quite a risk as he's one that could go either way but he has alot of pace and is very skillful so could potentially bring alot to our side and is probably worth the risk at about 10m. More safe options in terms of pl experience could be Aaron Lennon or Ashley Young who i think would also both be good additions for the right wing and affordable at 15m.

Another option would be to go for more of a wing forward, Aguero could fill this role nicely but probably to expensive so maybe lavezzi who can play an attacking right wing role -as well as second striker- and does so for argentina. Were we to move for a player of those atributes ,and N'Zogbia, a formation like this could be suitable (front 6)

------------gerrard----lucas--------------
----lavezzi-----suarez-----nzogbia----
-------------------carrol--------------------

and the option of

--------------------lucas---------------------
------------gerrard--------merieles--------
--------lavezzi-----suarez---------nzogbia

*this has the added bonus of ahving a frontline which ll have 'z' in their name which is badass .
it would be porto-esque with the left winger hugging the touchline to stretch the opposition and the right winger coming inside and interchanging with the striker to create trouble for markers.

i think in both the right winger/forward and suarez would interchange heavily

I disagree... we can not go through the summer and not sign a first team left back. You can not play Johnson at left back and Kelly right back and expect to get anything better than 5th again...

This is what I do not understand: King Kenny makes a brave move by playing Johnson at right back and is hailed a genius etc, where as had Hodgson done the same thing, in the first game, everyone would be having a go at him, no matter how well Johnson plays.

We NEED a left back, a back up keeper, 2 wingers, a centre forward, a creative midfielder not afraid of losing possession when playing a through ball and a good centre back, all of which are either straight into the first team (Left Back and Centre Back) and the rest onto the bench.
That is just for top 4...

In order to challenge, we need 3 signings of world class quality, and 3 more players that are either up and coming or can go straight onto the bench.

Anyway, basic point is that our squad is nowhere good enough, and if we go through a patch with 6 players injured again, our cracks will show again. Over the last few years, we have been very susceptible to injuries, and that needs to be addressed because it is caused by pre-season training and training during the season. We are lacking somewhere, and need to compensate with a large squad.

We do need a left back.

The young players have done extremely well since they have been introduced into the first team, but as young players they may be prone to inconsistency or a drop in performance levels if things aren't going well.

All the best teams are built on a solid defence and I would be disappointed if Kenny didn't bring in a left back, and a left back who is left footed.

Thank you, there is nothing wrong with buying a 25 year old left back, keeping him for 3 or 4 seasons, by which point you can promote your youngster in to that position if he is good enough, since he will be 21 or 22 by then, and then you can choose to sell on the left back and recoup some of the initial outlay...

Failing that, keep him and at the very least you have 2 left backs capable of playing at the same level, competing for their place... and both players will offer you something different, whether it is pace or strength etc etc...

Paisleys. Yep youngsters can be prone to inconsistancy but so can 25 year olds plus. Flannegan has proven his consistancy as has Kelly. I'm sure Kenny would have dropped Robinson from the squad if he didn't trust his consistancy. Stonfcd we're not going to have an unlimited budget and to get the six or so players well have to once again get in average players rather than spend on getting two or three quality players. Glad for the debate though which is what these forums should be about instead of the your club is rubbish stuff that arises from wums. Sonic good shout for Lavessi. Hazard would be good but may not be available.
