Colin's Match ratings v Bristol City

Every week I will be doing player ratings on all league games as well as showing collated scores. Feel free to agree or criticise my decisions.

Camp - Did well when called upon. Saved very well from Stead and Adomah. (7)
Moloney - Very impressed with him, did well defensively as well as getting foward incredibly well with plenty of runs. Could he be our right back, is he the answer? Maybe. My MOTM (8)
Halford - Looked good and dealt with Stead for the most part despite a few shaky moments. Can't help but think a better striker could have torn him to pieces. (7)
Collins - This guy is a great captain and dealt with everything Brizzle had to throw at him. Very impressed and suprised at how good he really is. Saying that however, it is only the first game of the season and up against a fairly poor striker in Stead. (8)
Harding - Again ala Halford, a couple of shaky moments, he does look very experienced and reminded me of Shorey in some respects. Will be steady if unspectacular this season. (7)

Majewski - Well a typical Majweski game, buzzing around looking dangerous at times with slick passes then fades as the game went on. Lost possession a fair few times. A 6 may be harsh but it is because i know what this lad can do and it is at lot better. (6)
Mcgugan - Maybe SOD has solved the great Mcgugan problem. Looked like the Mcgugan we love to see play. Slick passes and a constant threat, our most dangerous player. (8)
Guedioura - This lad loves it here and the fans love him. Looked at home, zipping the ball across the pitch very well with a couple of hollywood passes thrown in there. His goal was a poachers finish and taken very well. Maybe not as influential as we know he can be but definitley put in a shift. (7)
Gillett - I reckon this lad must be related to Paul Mckenna. Almost exactly the same player - the fiery aggressive attitude. Goes about his business quietly and keeps the game ticking. If he can add a bit more steel to his game then he will be an important player for us this season. (7)
Reid - Good game from him yesterday. Looked a constant threat and linked up well with Blackstock. Apart from his one great free-kick his set pieces were dreadful, would be an 8 if wasn't for his set pieces. (7)

Blackstock - Not his usual self for me. Missed a few chances and struggled to work the goalkeeper including an absolute sitter. However despite an off day, will be an important player for us this season and will certainly score goals (6)

Subs

Cox - Came on and looked likely and much more mobile than Blackstock. Laid on a great ball for Guedioura to tuck away. Will be interesting to see how he does when started (7)

Lascelles & Greening were not on the pitch long enough to warrant a rating.

Conclusion - Good performance but not pulling up any trees as of yet but a good start, roll on the season!

sounds like a good solid start though! i'm surprised gillett impressed. i imagined he'd be behind both moussi and greening for that holding role but if he really is as good as mckenna at his best then awesome.

I agree with your ratings, on Lewis though I wish he'd stop diving for Pen's. He doesn't do himself any favours one day we'll have a genuine shout for one and the Ref won't give it!! Maybe why we never got one last year.

Dead right Phillo! Gillett's maturity combined with Moussi's steel would be perfect!

Pep, I know what you mean! Lewis definitley needs to stay on his feet. Did we really not get 1 penalty last year?! That is unheard of.

Good article Colin.

It's very encouraging considering that many Forest players are recent acquisitions. As the season progresses and they continue to 'gel', I can only see them getting better. (Hopefully!)

I thought gillete was a bit like McKenna as well. Let's hope hi doesn't spend the whole game passing sideways! He certainly did loads of organising on the field.

Cheers TorontoTree. Yeah definitley, that is the encouraging thing, that we can only get better!

6 is a bit harsh for Raddy, thought he was very good.

Think Gillett could be a big player for us. Player of the year at Donny, a holding midfielder who gets gets POY at any Championship club at a mere 26 should usually cost a few bob so great addition. Moussi has been very hit and miss and Greening is a luxury player who we'd be best getting rid of as he was just another unnecessary expensive McClaren flop along with Derby#hire! No future for these guys in the new Forest
